Yeah, but it just looked awful, and I found myself missing the one from the old anime...

I absolutely loved it! :D So looking forward to how it goes. From what has been said, it is indeed supposed to keep close to the manga, and apparently with things Naoko had wanted in the manga, but didn't have time(which is yay!). The animation is definitely different than the original anime, but it's a good thing I think. :) I really like the way it looks personally. And, it's just like PGSM, it's a new way to tell the story in a different format(like Setsunakou mentioned, Sailor Moon can have 3 versions). :D

Watched the Mercury episode today! Was really happy with it. She's my favorite and I was glad to see that they kept her transformation almost exactly the same! Looking forward to the Mars episode next!

Just watched both comparisons, I'm not gonna lie, I like things about both and dislike things about both. The old one definitely starts out much better, but feels rushed towards the end (it's almost like they were like "naked psychedelic shadow--oops now she has clothes better speed this shit up no one is interested anymore"). The new one feels a little too long in my opinion, and utilizes way too much of that strange 3D hybrid animation, but I like the pacing of it better, the only thing I'm disappointed in is that there isn't more of the aforementioned "psychedelic" imagery.

I've heard this is getting a lot of flak for being flat and unemotional. I haven't been able to get a chance to watch it yet, is this true/any truth to this? What does everyone think? :)

Well, I've watched the 2 episodes aired so far and I have to admit, it's really not that interesting. So far, it's a total rehash of the original (which is understandable since that's how the manga goes, too, and this is following it closely) without, I don't know, as much interaction or personality to the characters somehow. I don't know if it's just because 'seen it all before' or if it really IS lacking in depth. Maybe it's because they don't speak/chatter to each other as much as previously?

One thing that is still poor in both episodes, is the animation quality. You'd think that for a series as important as Sailor Moon's 22nd anniversary manga anime that was so hyped, they'd make sure it was nearly as perfect as possible!
Ami-chan's face was soo badly done much of her episode! She looked like she had so much mascara on her lower lids that she had black and blue bags under her eyes! And the faces were all on crooked. (Poor Motoki/Andrew looked just awful!)

I know they are following Naoko Takeuchi-sensei's art style (which is subpar at best) but does the drawing/art in a 2014 anime have to be even worse? Why can't the artists at least keep the faces on straight! :laughs:

I'll still watch it, of course, since we're HUGE SM fans of any genre (over 250 SM dolls, 60 plush, 30 1/6 resin models, at least a dozen 1/4 - 1/8 resin models; 30 SD resin models, 200 pvc figures of all variying sizes, every episode in Jpaanese and English on dvd, every SeraMyu on DVD, paper dolls, fanbooks, all artbooks, keychains, costumes of every version (Orig, Super, Eternal, Infinite, SeraMyu, Silver Millennium, Neo Princess, School, Casual,) etc, etc, etc, including murals on our walls, on our ceiling fans and more---we know SM inside and out!) but it really isn't very inspiring and the music OP/ED are not good at all, in my opinion. They're so NOT catchy, like 'Moonlight Densetsu' 'Sailor Star Song' or 'Kirari Sailor Dream' was and ALL the ED themes of 1st/R/S/SuperS/Stars (Heart Moving, Princess Moon, Otome no Policy, Tuxedo Mirage, Watashitachi ni Naritakute, Rashiku Ikimashou, Kaze mo, Sora mo Kitto...). Those were all hummable and singable and MEMORABLE!

Both the new OP/ED (Moon Pride & Gekkou) are opposite---totally forgettable!

I guess it really is tough to catch lightning in a bottle more than once (and SM has already done it a few times---the original anime, PGSM, SeraMyu). So this is a hard sell---it does have the advantage of 'nostalgia' but I don't know how far that will take it if they don't step up the art.

Really, it needs serious improvement, particularly on the faces.

I agree with the new music, not a huge fan. I like the new art style, I've always been a fan of how Naoko drew. Maybe that's because it's how I got into drawing in high school and into art as a whole. It's what started my artistic journey, so I'll alwyas have a soft spot for that style. I didn't really notice the faces being super off, maybe I'll go back and rewatch for a closer look. Honestly, I was just so excited bc I love Mercury, that it probably put rose lenses on me the entire time!

I don't really understand why everyone keeps bringing up the lack of depth point, but i suppose if it consistently being brought up it must be a point of debate. I think it seems consistent with the manga and similar to the first run-through so far. With only two episodes, it's really hard to judge that, as nothing would be so drastically different at this point. I think that once there is more interaction between characters, as they are added in, there will be more chance for that character development we are used to. ^^

I actually really like the new music. Never could stand the original opening or ending themes. Always reminded me too much of, I dunno, elevator or lounge music or something. Same with the transformation music. Didn't fit the feel of the animal at all. Too ... grownup-sounding? No, I think dated is the word I want...

Watched the 2nd episode, was happy to see Queen Beryl, even though we still didn't get a good look at her face.

The animation did seem a bit wonky in places, and Tuxedo Mask's appearance seemed a lot more random and unnecessary than before... -__-;

I am a Sailor Moon fan for sure, but the jury is still out on whether I will really like Crystal or not.

I'm actually seriously confused about why Mamoru is CONSTANTLY in a tux in this reboot...i forget how the first few manga go, but was he always dressed like that? I mean Usagi does pick up on it in the first episode, but here he is again, on the street in black tie formal...
