Not quite Young Sherlock

Postby DollyKim » Sat May 31, 2014 2:46 pm

The others seemed to have the worst luck when it came to hammers. Working step by step in polymer clay, the eyes will get painted, unsure about the rest yet. Going to be using the same old Triad and Ignite bodies.

Sherlock got done, don't know if I'll get to Watson or someone else will get the body. Temporary face to make sure the forms are working out. Haven't decided if he'll be fully painted or just partially. It's best that he rests for a bit so I can settle in to him.

What a gorgeous profile! At that scale it's an amazing sculpting job. Good work!

Thanks, I wanted to do that nose some justice.

**Fellow doll makers and artists will understand what I mean by this head being "not quite right" for what I was wanting. He's a wonderful sculpt, I feel proud I made him, but he's not my Sherlock.

I second the love of his profile. You've captured his nose (and receding chin) wonderfully. I also think your paintwork has gotten neater recently - I love how clean all the lines are, and how evenly done the eye paint is.

Hrnn I can see what you mean by him being a little off, but I can definitely see the resemblance to the actor.

I'm afraid I can't actually give any useful critiques here, beyond thinking maybe his facial expression is a little too kindly/not stern somehow? Though he does also manage to look remarkably similar to a friend of mine (who fancies himself as a bit of a Sherlock Holmes!) whilst still resembling N.Rowe!

Thanks, each head teaches me something and each comes out better than the last. The expression is supposed to be on the sweet side and a bit neutral so I can get the most use in photo stories. That's the big thing in wanting a Nick/Sherlock.

I ... have no clue on head-sculpting, but I have to share my admiration of that profile, and just sheer awe at the fact you're able to sculpt your own heads for dolls and come out with such amazing results at 1/6 scale!

And oddly enough, Tom Baker has also played Sherlock Holmes.

Pic of him in the role (and Nicholas Rowe, and 8 others) here
