Werepuppy: Hah I love the William Wallace song! It's mad how much we don't know about him considering how far back historians can generally go with British history...

A Little Soul. In the mood for some Jarvis again (also MiniMe Pulp are all adorable... Mini!Jarvs is adorably chubby-cheeked and Mini!Candida! Squee at teh cuteness) I love the melancholy feel of this song/video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1Nkq-NEyP8

Something's Changed: A really quietly beautiful song this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFSdf_VeYG0

Bowie's In Space!! Possibly one of the earliest purpose-made music videos ever? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D67kmFzSh_o (I adore how simply the "space" effects were carried out and how effective they were!)

Flight of the Conchords' take on the above video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4zV4pJ8MwM
(I really adore all of the Bowie references they've managed to cram into this video, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s references at the very least are all in there)

Life on Mars? Love the simplicity of this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v--IqqusnNQ
(Though oh Dave why didn't you blow your nose beforehand?? Once I spotted it I couldn't unspot it...)

Ashes to Ashes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMThz7eQ6K0 (Utterly love how bizarre this video is - and having seen the original storyboard it came out precisely as intended... As well as the infamous Steve Strange cameo!)

Underground: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwVqOs3Aess (An absolutely brilliant song, those lyrics, for that film! Only Bowie would have come up with something like these as the theme for a kids film! And well the video is sheer brilliance, I think he's benefitting from a little studio-funding here! And the Changes!Photo-montage! Gah! And the animation! I love this video so much!)

Jump They Say: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avJt0SQec0I (Warning the themes in this song are rather dark and triggery. And disturbingly the seminal image from this video is directly inspired by a real-life photo of a woman in 1947 who committed suicide. Despite this I love the quietly sinister atmosphere at the "office" throughout this leading up to... well it says in the title!)

I'm Afraid of Americans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPVrFIP0CMs (Another video that's slightly disturbing... With Trent Reznor as a very scary man)

Thursday's Child: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S227FFNwl8 (Lovely melancholy song from a much underrated album, the video really highlights the "looking back" tone the song has)

Ahem  I could go on... But I've hit the Max Links Limit!

Vetinari One of the many reasons Horrible Histories music segments are fantastic; they lampshade that sort of thing. But you're right, it is very much a mad thing.

And yes, I picked some more favourite videos

My Last Semester by The Wonder Years. I only really discovered this song relatively recently, and even though this is only a lyric video, the song and the whole scribbled mess of a background picture really summed up how I felt in my last few terms at university. Honestly, I really support people going and learning stuff, but I have many issues with the institutions set up for people to learn in. But yes, the song is fantastic, and easy to relate to.

Some more Horrible Histories here with Matilda(s), Stephen ... and Henry. This one is really a take off of Abba. I'm not the greatest expert, but name-dropped or musically referenced seem to be: Fernando, Waterloo, Voulez-Vous, Dancing Queen, Gimme Gimme, Take a Chance on Me, I Do I Do I Do, The Winner Takes it All, Mama Mia, Knowing Me Knowing You. Insane, I know, but it works.

Continuing on the educationally fun songs, here's the Joan of Arc song, which is pretty much Jessie J's 'Price Tag.' (Actually, fun fact, 'nunnery' used to be a common slang for ... well let's just say the Seamstress Guild workplaces. Granted, this was more in the age of pirates, but for some reason it always comes to mind and makes the song have this unintentional layer of irony.) And here we also have (We're The) Georgian Navy, a send up of all those sport chants, but mostly the song Vindaloo by Fat Les.

One from childhood that never fails to get me (attempting to) sing along: The Nations of the World, brought to you by Yakko Warner.

Okay, so let's look at non-educational videos for a bit. Erm, okay! I'm a bit of an Emily the Strange fan, and I found out recently that they produced a music video for her band 'Emily and the Strangers'. And I have to admit, the animated music video is pretty awesome: Calling All Guitars.

Ialso have to give a shout out to Fall Out Boy's My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (and the videos which follow the storyline) and My Chemical Romance's Na Na Na, and the director's cut of SING

Okay, that was a lot more than I intended to write. Maybe next time I'll get into the more 'classic' music videos I really like (though I am going to check the thread to see if anyone else has mentioned them first)
