In a follow up on the recast Ducan... we're trying to claim the insurance on him, the seller is being helpful, but we'll see how things turn out. In better news, we did find where he came from (we think) and we contacted Dream of Doll. We told them what happened, and linked them to the site, and my girlfriend even offered to compensate them in some way. They got back to her, and said they were very sorry it happened and that it wasn't our fault. They did say they now ship their dolls with certificates of authenticity, so for the record, anyone buying a DoD second hand, ask for the certificate and buyer beware. They even said it was ok that she keep him, with the stipulation that he stays with her, and is never resold, which of course won't be a problem because she's so totally in love with him. And really, he's such a sweet little thing, it's hard not to love him, even though he is recast.

Here's some petulant whining from me: I wanted to go see Frozen this afternoon, but I had to run out to the store and since it's raining in Alaska, I got stuck in my driveway on the way home. $35 tow/winch bill and now it's parked til the city and my landlord get off their dead butts and do some plowing. I may have to take a cab to work tomorrow too. Shoulda stayed in bed.

At school today, there were some jerks with one of those illegal laser pointers, and were shining them right INTO people eyes and laughing... They got me and it hurt and I ended up having to go to the doctor to get it checked out and guess what, there's slight damage. Nothing permanent, but still >:I It hurts like a mofo.

I'm seriously debating suing them for assault, 'cause it technically is just that.

If I were you I would, those things are my nightmare. Glad there wasn't any permanent damage at least.

@FacelessPuppets Go after the people who did it. You had to go to a doctor and you have legitimate pain and suffering because someone purposefully hurt you. They're cracking down on people who do that to pilots left and right so the authorities might be very interested in those guys.

I'm actually kind of impressed by this whole scenario. Not only did you go out of your way to try to make amends with the company- even when they would have been unaware of it,but the company itself made a pretty classy move without demanding destruction or taking it out on you in any way. All in all, as much as it stinks that he was an illegal recast, it's not a horrible outcome.

It could have definitely turned out worse, and I'm so happy she loves him even though he isn't what we intended. We also reported him to the Den of Angels mods, told them the situation, and showed them the email from DoD. We wanted him to be noted, so no-one would find him unexpectedly here, or on flickr, and go running to the Den and report Myrretah for owning a recast, even though she'd never post him there. They were actually very understanding, and just reiterated that he can't be posted or even mentioned anywhere on the site, and noted that thread to her account for other mods to see. If we do get the insurance money in time to report the ebay seller, we may do it just to hold onto the money to give to Dream of Doll at the Dollism USA convention (if they go) but we're still waiting to hear about the claim.

It's 36 degrees out there...this is ALASKA for heaven's sake. It's not supposed to do this and we have another week or so of it in the forecast. Standing water over ice...so much fun. Our parking lot is an ice rink and we can't seem to make the landlord understand that sanding is part of the bargain when he bought this place. I'm mad at the DH for falling because he knows better and he has boots with better traction to wear and we have removable cleats for him to put on. His fault if he won't take the time. (He's sore, but not really injured.) However, the dog, poor thing, can hardly make it out to go to the bathroom and he's too big to pick up when he slips. I'm mad and I'm frustrated. Moving back to the lower 48 is starting to make sense. I'd rather deal with 6 feet of snow than this crap.

Kenaiqueen, inform the landlord, via email, that you are putting him on notice - either he maintains the parking lot so that it is safe, or you will pay to have it sanded and take it out of your rent. Most, if not all, states allow for that. Or, if that's not something you feel comfortable with, let him know that if any of your family, including your dog, gets injured because he failed to properly maintain the property he will be held responsible for any costs. Just be sure to put it in written form (like email).

Thanks, Kirahfaye, but he had stopped by last night to look at something and I cornered him and waited while he got on the phone to a snow/sanding place. They came out today and got it done. Now I'm praying the light rain we have doesn't wash it all away. It's a difficult situation because the landlord is the uncle of a friend/former employee of my DH and the 'friend' is supposed to be the maintenance manager. We just can't get too openly nasty with him. At this point, we are looking for a new place to live. Our dog is ageing and the DH has a knee replacement so living on a second floor just isn't working for us anymore. (Oh, and I do buy both ice melt and traction grit and take them off the rent every month.)
