Is it bad that I'd really like to buy a Chancellor Valorum 12" figure, and then mod him into Bernadette? Shame that the only ones I can find are all over in the US, so the shipping is like 3x what the doll costs...

Doesn't sound bad to me. XD Though I felt I should warn you that if you mean the Hasbro 12" dolls, they have some scale oddities. I recently picked up Grand Moff Tarkin and Qui-Gon Jinn for my collection. They're 1/6 scale in height, but 1/4 scale in width, or at least it seems that way to me. The height matches with my barbies and obitsu, but in terms of width I can fit Tarkin's top and boots on my Tonner Cameo and the only noticeable problem with the fit is that the sleeves are too short. The heads and hands are also closer to 1/4 scale than 1/6th, IMO, though opinions may vary there as I've seen a lot of 1/6 dolls with large heads (Monster High comes to mind right off the top).

And I say it doesn't sound bad, because if I use either of the ones I mentioned in my eventual photoshoots, I'm thinking of making little wooden stilts and Wookiee costumes. I could use a couple Wookiees... I'll also need Qui-Gon in a scene or two, but I may have to use some photo manipulation or tricky camera angles to cover the scale issues.
Playscale-Obsessed Mad Scientist with more cheap vinyl dolls than I'm willing to count.

Seconding Hasbro having funky widths though its not limited to them, its pretty standard in the 1/6 action figure world. My Chicline boy wears a lot of commercially available military shirts and shoes (the pants for some reason are always too tight). He's a little closer to 1/5 than 1/4 but still, and Chiclines are fairly buff and proportional. Noticed some 1/6 muscular action ladies are pretty close to my Chicline girl too though usually a tad too small.

Thanks for the info! If I manage to find him at a reasonable price I think I'll be hybridising him to get more joints - I've got the Qui Gon Jinn figure from that era and he only had very basic articulation if I remember correctly... Not sure though I confess I bought him to mug for his Jedi outfit! (Which Tony has claimed from it's original recipient...)

The accursed Literature review has expanded alarmingly, and I've not even edited most of the polymer section yet! Oh dear... I've also decided that I'll stop working on the blasted thing tomorrow - I've just realised I've only got a week until my 1st final... Eek... Dissertation can wait!

Also - Sasu's wig finally arrived (About 1 month and a half after I ordered it) it's pretty good - though I'm now thinking he needs to be a dirty blonde rather than the very light colour that this wig turned out to be (the photo was a little misleading - it looked darker than it is) ...Hmm... I'll think about it

Can you tea dye the wig?

I'm debating if I want to buy some reissue paper dolls, Little Miss America, Sweetheart, and Bonnie Bows because I want to use the dolls in some art. All were by Betty Campbell. Our set of Bonnie that I scanned in is missing one of the girls and they were rather well loved. Better they had fun, eh?

There have been tornadoes going through the state all day. My mom even had us pack up a bag in case we had to evacuate in a hurry. I was really torn up about this because she said there wouldn't be room for my dolls. When we were watching the news I kept replaying this terrible scene in my head in which our house is completely demolished and my dolls are destroyed beyond recognition. Losing the house would have been bad enough, I don't think I could have handled losing something I put so much of my heart into, ya know what I mean guys?

I keep my dolls and cameras in a bag just in case on nights like this. Not to mention we have a suitcase of our things (clothes) because IL is weird for weather. But if everything was lost, damn straight I would cry and mourn the loss but it IS just stuff. Losing my family would kill me. The dolls and whatever can be replaced.

I assume she was intending to evacuate in the car.

BAD idea. Some of the people hurt or killed on I35 were people trying to escape the tornado in their cars.

If you are that concerned, I suggest that you find a corner of the yard you are allowed to dig a hole in. Get one of those giant plastic storage bins with the sealable top and bury it in that corner. If things look bad, take the dolls out to the yard, put them in the bin and seal the top, then put something heavy (like one or two concrete pavers) on the top. ALL of my dolls will fit in one and I have SDs and MSDs.
All you damn kids get offa my lawn!
