Hi!, So this week I got my first SD boy head in the mail from a DOA member. The transaction was fine, though since it was marketed as a practice head, the yellowing wasn't mentioned. That's fine though since it's a rather nice yellowish tan color and quite even. Either way, this boy won't be getting a body anytime soon so skin matching won't be an issue.

The box! Quite cute with a little sticker.

Nicely packed and safe for doll heads!~

Unwrapped...and looking kinda dirty due to the old faceup being very heavy handed.
Image

But you can still tell this boy has great bone structure! Look how handsome he is.
Image

After two scrubbings. He's quite dirty. I never thought that removing an old face up would make me feel ick...but it did. The layering was extremely thick. I'm not sure how cleanly he was scrubbed between practice faceups as this was what his purpose was for the previous owner as well and she wasn't the first owner.
Image

You can still see there is old paint left in the deepest crevices. I'm not sure what they used for the pink paint on the inner eye rims but it isn't coming off. Might be some sort of enamel.
Image

The head also has a chip inside the eye well. Looks like someone was trying to do some eye beveling and their hand slipped.
Image

Theres another chip at the rim of his head but it's ok since it should be covered by his wig.
Image

Check out the skin color difference on the inside of head cap vs the face. The discoloration is fairly even and it looks like the red pigment isn't stable so it kinda disappeared. At the same time, since only the outside of the head is discolored, the discoloration is probably due to light exposure instead of just time. As a practice head, it probably just sat around without a wig.
Image

So this is the other head. I can't really figure out what it is but the vinyl is super soft. I don't think I like it much but maybe I will change my mind after I paint it. There is very obvious staining from the paint.
Image
Image

If anyone knows what it is, pls let me know. It does have those weird grippy eye wells like some of the Obitsu heads.

For removing the old faceup - did you use some Windsor and Newton brush cleaner along with your magic eraser and elbow grease? :) I read the suggestions about that on DoA and I'm sooooo glad I got some - it's made cleaning off old faceups much easier!

Hehe. I remember asking someone on Flickr where I could buy 'Elbow Grease'. *blush* It's the language barrier... can't help it.

lol. elbow grease....that is cute.

Yeah I used Winsor Newton brush cleaner twice. I think it's just a weird enamel paint probably. it's ok I'll be careful when I sand it off and try to fix the eye chip at some point though it's not very impt.

If English isn't your primary language, elbow grease sounds like an actual product lol..

What a beautiful sculpt he is!!!! I know your faceup is going to be spectacular!! You are SO GOOD!

Anyway, what will get EVERY bit of previous faceups off with ease is TEA TREE OIL. (It's available at your local pharmacy in the vitamin aisle, I believe. Just ask for it. ^^).

I use it all the time and it's practically 100% successful and easy! Just take some Q-tips, dip it into the tea tree oil and rub away! You'll probably need 8-10 tips to get a full faceup off, but it will work for certain. ^^

Once the paint is all off, you can just use regular soap and water to rinse off the head and remove any excess tea tree oil.
