I have a question about the Obitsu 50cm girls.

The basic Obitsu 50cm abdomen has, to my eyes, very bony hips and is too thin by far. The large bust for the 50 is nicely sculpted, but I really don't like the very thin abdomen. So I was looking at the pictures of the 50cm and 60 cm bodies at Parabox, and a thought struck me.

The abdomen for the 60cm spherical joint body has a very narrow waist. There's no way the 60cm chest piece wold work on a 50cm skeleton. But, would a modified 60cm abdomen work? I was looking at the waist on both pieces and the 60cm spherical body has a very narrow waist. I'm wondering whether a 50cm chest piece could be made to fit if the upper portion of the 60cm abdomen were trimmed away.



Basically I'm looking for a way of getting something close to that Yamato Type F without taking a second mortgage. I was wondering whether a 50cm large bust and modified 60cm slim, spherical joint body abdomen would be able to pair up effectively on the 50cm skeleton. The skeleton looks like it would fit inside the 60cm abdomen, so am I crazy, or could this work?

By "Type F" I assume you're referring to the new "Sonic Mascot" character. (pictured in the center)


I have been wondering about this body for a while. This is one of the first pictures with the new body, which Yamato has designated the Type A (I had always thought that the very first VMF, Minmae, a stock 50cm, was the Type A, although never really labeled as such. But I digress...), where the Type A is pictured with one of the other VMF Types and a direct comparison can be made. The Type A does indeed appear to have a fuller figure (bust/waist/hips/thighs) than the Type D's (Risa) she is pictured next to. She also might have a lighter skin tone than the normal Obitsu white skin, but that might just be the lighting. Being another limited VMF fullset, the Type A's are pricey and the prices on the Y!J Auction market have been astronomical.

Anyway, using a normal 60cm abdomen on a 50cm body...my gut reaction is that it may actually be too wide (physically) for use on a 50cm. Although this could warrant some experimentation. Later.

My initial thought was that it might be too wide as well, but I think the waist joint would actually fit inside the vinyl, and comparing the two bodies in pictures of them side by side, it looks like if you put the 50cm inner skeleton into the 60cm abdomen, the 50cm legs would fit into the hip sockets. In fact I wondered about the relative scale of the two, and then realized that because the 50cm thigh vinyl covers the hip ball-joint, it will actually be a little bigger than you might think, and properly fill the socket.

I don't have a 50cm to play with to see, but my first step would be to take the 60cm abdomen and 50cm inner skeleton and see whether or not the waist joint and legs can be assembled using that abdomen. If so and it doesn't look horrible, the next step would be to look at the top of the abdominal piece to see how it could be altered to fit the 50cm chest piece.

This all came to mind because I was looking at some of the various hybrid body/limb combinations for the 55cm boy, it kind of got me thinking about what might be possible with the 50cm girl.

I can already hear the screams as dolliehs try to hide their vinyl.

I have never actually Dremeled anyone and the blade of choice is a #11 X-acto.

I have enough spare/replacement parts to do this without any one volunteering. I think they hide because they find "parts roulette" disturbing to watch. And there is that occasional project that just ends abruptly for one reason or another, like the DD2 with the Obitsu 60cm skeleton, which has been on my desk for the last 4 months...

So today's project is to see if Obitsu 60cm bust and abdomen parts fit on the Obitsu 50cm frame. First we'll put the 60cm abdomen on the 50cm skeleton. The enclosed hip balls fit into the abdomen sockets even with the larger VMS Type D thighs. Next we add the 50cm large bust.



It looks like a nice fit, a little small on top, but...



The 60cm abdomen has a lot of material on the top that would have to be removed. The deeper 50cm rib/spine part is a tight fit on the 60cm abdomen as it is. If we go to a 60cm bust...



Sorry, can't find the large bust (?!), but the medium overall specs are the same. The real problem is now apparent. The 60cm's shoulders are significantly wider than the 50cm's shoulders. In the above picture, the arm pegs are just barely in the skeleton's sockets.

However...


The need for narrower shoulders opens the door for the DD2 busts, which have about 1cm narrower shoulders. So the DD2 large bust fits!



As does the DDDy busts.

You know, the DD2 bust on the 50 cm body looks really good, curvy and not so thin.

OK, so, the 60cm abdomen works with the legs, hips and waist piece. But the 50cm chest piece is too snug. The smaller diameter of the 50cm chest piece makes it fit too tightly.

There is some vinyl to be removed from the top of the 60cm abdomen to allow things to fit.

DD2 bust works well.

OK, now, how does the internal skeleton of the 50 compare against the 60 in terms of length? Since you would have to trim some of the material off the top of the 60 abdomen anyway for the 50cm skeleton, could you also provide a 'v' shaped cut on either side to allow the top of the abdomen to pinch in ever so slightly to allow the 50cm bust to fit without pinching the back as you show?

I mean I can live with using a DD/DD2 bust vinyl on it, but if I'm going to have to trim the top of the abdomen anyway, is there any corrective surgery that I could do to allow the original 50cm large bust to fit, even if it's snug?

I must say, I really like the way that 60cm abdomen matches up with the 50cm legs. Definitely an improvement over the original abdomen there.

Misheru was just looking over my shoulder and wondered aloud whether the regular Dollfie Dream abdomen might be used instead of an Obitsu 60cm. All of this is pure conjecture of course, we're just looking for an opinion. We don't have a 50cm to play with at this point, so we can't even hold them up against each other for comparison.

However if either abdomen can be made to work, it sure seems like a much easier (and cost effective) way to get the curvy body that the VMF50 Type F brings from Yamato. The arms and legs of the original are fine, neither of us particularly wants the special arm and leg vinyl that come with the VMF, but the curvy abdomen and larger bust are definitely where we want to take a 50cm from Obitsu. So if the body vinyl can be replaced with something from Obitsu or Volks that will work (even with a little modification) that seems like a great compromise.

Diamond (55cm) has been in a DD2 large bust and abdomen for several years.

By the way, you will want Volks Normal Skin to match your Obitsu White Skin.
