Question about wigs and wig caps for Obitsu head

Postby Alopecia No Hime » Tue Jan 01, 2013 7:04 am

Since I realized I still had money leftover I wanted to buy Haruka a new wig and saw the wig caps...And I'm wondering with the Obitsu wigs Jspot carries do I need one? Because right now I'm ready to hack her mimiwoo wig into pieces with how it's been irritating me as of late. It sticks on her head but it pops off at a moments notice...I still wanna use it for certain photoshoots but I'm worried if I get a straight wig in the same bold red color from Jspot if it will just be the same problem all over again.

Here's the wig I wanna get:

Here's the wig I bought from Mimiwoo:

Honestly I think I'm remembering reason number TWO I swore off of Mimiwoo in the first place. It's inconsistent as well as a long time to get it. Haruka's old wig (now Haruhi's wig) was a slight size too BIG for her when I got it...

So yeah anyone who has one of those wigs Jspot carries mind giving me some thoughts? I just want Haruka to be done...Feels like I had the right wig for her...Now six months later I'm kicking myself.

Hmmm, I think you'll have the same problem if you don't get a silicon wig cap or use velcro or moleskin on her. I've had both the Mimiwoo wigs and the Junkyspot/Obitsu/Parabox wigs and the Volks wigs, too, and they're all very nice and fit well, but if you plan to play or pose your girl a lot, her wig will always tumble off if you don't use something underneath to keep it on.

Most of our 1/6 dolls are just for display, so they're fine without anything but, I know when we do a photoshoot or make a commission with wigs, they WILL pop right off unless it's glued, velcroed, or a silicon wig cap is used underneath to secure it better.

The Junkyspot wigs do fit better and more snugly, but they do still pop off if played or posed with often. I think it just can't be helped because their heads are so small--not much for the wig to 'grab' onto without some help.

Hope it helps! Good luck!

I can't remember if I have the JS wigs you mention, I have the glib type, Parabox and Mimiwoo type. Silicon can't do much for my Gretels. Velcro can better to use as long as it doesn't end up catching hair and causing damage.

After much outings and play the wig will feel the effect. I kinda given up trying to save them and plan to purchase backup wigs a little later down the road.

My experience is that Mimi Woo wigs are hit or miss. Some were wonderful, One 3-4" I couldn't keep on my doll's head for the life of me, with or without a wigcap, even though it seemed to fit perfectly. I hated it with a passion and ended up selling it.

Yeah the wig popping on and off is my issue. It even happens when just picking her up. She's got a small head her old wig made her head look a lot bigger then it actually is. I'd rather have a wig that fit snugly and might stay on (seriously I'm gonna be cutting the Jspot wig anyways to a shorter length and style to suit her character better) then one that pops off at seemingly even the wrong glance. It's beautiful but it's fallen so many times it's driving me bonkers. I might just add a wig cap to my shopping cart along with the wig, see how I like it...(And moleskin well...I don't want her possibly stained. I still like taking pics of her bald.)

Thanks for the advice guys.

What about sticking a sewing pin through the wig and pinning it in place? You could hide the head of the pin or it could lok like a decoration. The scalp should heal small enough holes.

I have that problem with my Nano-Haruka. Her head is tiny. I actually glued magnets to her head and to her wig. That worked great! I put the magnet inside her headcap. I got the idea from Brownies, they have a magnet and a plate in the wig. A silicon wig cap will work too. I have used it successfully. The Parabox wigs are a little big on the eyehole Obitsu heads. The problem is that they are designed for several different heads.

The wigs from Junkyspot do tend to stay on a lot better than the ones I've gotten from Mimiwoo.

I've gotten a few of the wig caps for small dolls, but they don't really seem to help the wigs stay on much better. (Wig caps for my MSDs have been a huge help, but for the little guys, not so much.)

>_> the wig cap DOES stop Rosiel's headcap from flying off when he loses his wig, though, so getting them wasn't a total waste for me. (Rosiel has one of the resin Apple heads, which closes with a single magnet and goes flying off fairly often :| )
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

I hate to say it...but one of my little Obitsu girls has a really soft skull cap and I stuck a tiny pin in her wig and skull cap to keep her wig on. I'm a bad dollieh mommie because I was treating her like a voodoo doll.
