Lady Ayeka Masaki Jurai's lovely Snowsuit

Postby Tasuke » Thu Jun 19, 2014 11:19 am

a thread on another forum reminded me of one of my older works, so i thought i'd share. some years ago, probably around 2005ish, when i saw these soft house boots at a K-MART, and thought them adorable and near perfection;

just a few years back, -2011, i think- i found a pair of the white ones at a thrift for cheap,
and decided, what the hey, why not grab them and tweak them to my ideal vision of what would make them well and truly perfect?

see, they did leave quite an impression on me, enough to have made up an entire winter outfit based around a 1/6 reproduction of them,
for my favorite Anime doll of the time, TOYNAMI corp's 2001 "Princess Ayeka" 11in. doll. i had whipped this outfit for her up maybe a couple years after i first saw the actual boots in that store;

(( mind you, this is an older work of mine, not even remotely up to my current standards ))

as an aside, that effort up there is so old it is almost embarrassing to me. i'm sure i could do an infinitely superior job today if i had the yen to remake the outfit, which i haven't quite gotten the motivation for.

one thing i have done since, however, was fix Ayeka's wickedly-awful looking (IMO) factory eye job;

I replaced the ponytails on mine with actual hair. Unfortunately her body broke and it isn't fixed yet.

hip joints? that's where mine broke, too. i tried several angles towards a solid fix.
i ultimately settled on X-ACTOing large, deep holes in the legs where the joint points once were,
and reaming out an appropriately sized hole in the torso/hip area to allow
an electrical "BUTT CONNECTOR" (serious LOL at the name, i know)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usX9KRhgYnE

- inserted and superglued tn those leg holes, passing through the torso/hip in the process.

i cut the very ends off of the butt connector (lolz) leaving the central length,
which not only fit the holes nicely, but also had metal for the electrical contact,
which serves nicely as load-bearing reinforcement in this case.

the result is quite sturdy, and does allow the doll to sit/kneel,
at the sacrifice of independently movable legs.

at any rate, this was the best i could conceive, and a poor substitute
to a full replacement body, if a suitable one actually exists out there...

so, as it turns out, i went digging through some stuff i had in storage, and found that i actually had re-made Ayeka's snowsuit once some years ago, and forgot all about it!! indeed, while this complete remake is a clear step up from the first effort shown above, it is nonetheless quite crude compared to what i a am capable of today.

note, that it was made to fit my TSUKUDA HOBBY Shaorin, however, since i've recently grafted my Ayeka's head
onto a spare TSUKUDA HOBBY body, the outfit fits her as well as it had for Shaorin;

i also happened across those "JOE BOXER" branded, mid-2000's K-MART sourced, soft boots i mentioned at top of the thread, also long since half-forgotten in storage,
-those ones that i had mentioned had served as inspiration for both of my attempts at Ayeka's snowsuit outfit there- and, since they looked somehow unfinished to me, i went ahead and spruced them up some;
