We went up to the Cow in S.F last month and stopped in Colma ( a true city of the dead thousands of beautiful stones and monuments ) where Richards family is buried in the Chinese cemetery.
My family and I have worked in the mortuary field and have spent a lot of time in cemeteries across the country since I was a wee girl . I have long taken photos of cemetery art and collect books on it as well . I find cemeteries restful peaceful places but if anyone is offended by this please let me know and I can remove them. I intentional left out the more obvious ones.

I love old cemeteries too. There is a fabulous one that goes up the hill in Ferndale, a Victorian village in Humbolt County. As long as the photos are tasteful and respectful I don't see why anyone would be offended, especially at some of the historic cemeteries.

Many old cemeteries have great monuments. People these days for get that Victorian cemeteries where meant to be visited. The monuments were meant to be seen. A Victorian family would take a picnic and spend all day there.

Yes, please do! I spend a lot of time in our local cemeteries, not only because some of the monuments are beautiful, but I also help a woman from the office with genealogy. She sends me out to find some of the older monuments for her family histories.

Add me to the list of people wanting to see more piccahz! Here in the Deep South we don't view cemeteries as scary, spooky places--well, not in the daytime anyway. In fact, growing up I distinctly remember going to the cemetery on family occasions to have "dinner on the ground" on the family plot. Not on the graves, though--I'd get a spanking if I so much as stepped on a grave. There were benches and tables provided for families wanting to share occasions with those who had passed. Just because you're dead doesn't mean you're not still part of the family. To this day, cemeteries give me a feeling of peace and belonging.

I LOVE cemeteries! I can spend hours just walking around, reading the stones and feeling peaceful. Just this summer I spent sometime in a fine old private one, where some dear friends are buried. The ones in Scotland are just wonderful! So many really old stones, so much history and so many stories. And I would love to go to New Orleans to see the cemeteries and tombs and mausoleums someday. I want to see more pics!!
