Clothing recommendation

Hello all. Me again. Hubby said yes to the doll, so now he needs clothes. I have a budget of maybe 400 bucks. So after I get the doll I'll have to get him to an outfit. My sewing skills are newbie level, and I don't own a Sewing machine, and I prefer to hand sew, just like grandma, she has a sewing machine, but not going seven hours out of my way to use it, lol.

I need recomendations for places to look or people who take reasonably priced commisions. I have a specific look in mind, and can provide details of my doll's measure ments. EDIT: He is going to be a 1/3 70cm Doll Family-H Lei Li.

Minus the hat and the watch and bracelet, the shirt color I want is blue. As for the shoes, uhm, I looked everywhere, and making my own is easy, but I would like to get similar shoes in the pic. You have NO idea how annoying it was to find a pic of this guy with his clothes on and not being molested by the other male lead character.... Not that I mind..... Uhm...... This isn't the place to be posting yaoi of non dolls. oh gods....

I hope I didn't offend. Stating what my interests are is quite touchy for me. I have very few friend supporters of same sex couples... Oh crap... *facepalms* Well anyway that's the idea of my dollie's outfit. ANd the tie, is quite unique in the fact that the dots aren't flat. I wanna say they are pearls cut in half, but not as expensive. Kotestu[guy in pics] can't afford real pearls.

I might have missed it, but what size is your doll going to be? 1/6, 1/4, or 1/3?

Either way, gray pants are super easy; you can get those a lot of places. For something fairly cheap and in the US (if you're in the US), I like TNTdollclothing, who has a couple of gray pants in stock (though they're mostly jeans) and is willing to make customs of her designs too. The quality is nice although it does have a bit of a handmade look. These from Promise of the World suit your stylistic needs, but they're available in black, not gray. There are 1/3 grayish slacks here. Again, if you have a different doll size, look around the sites and other sizes may be offered.

A dress shirt is easy too. Here's light blue for a 1/3, and they have it for 1/4 too. Here's another 1/3 light blue shirt where the buttons are concealed. Dark blue seems a bit tougher to find.

The type of shoe you're looking for is called saddle shoes, and though I don't think I've spotted them, I'm sure they must exist for dolls.

A vest with a white front and a gray back you'll probably have to commission, and I'm not sure where to point you for that.

Now, for the tie, I think your best bet will be to get a regular black tie like this and glue some studs from a craft store onto it. You're unlikely to find one as-is and it'll be a lot cheaper than commissioning the whole tie.

Given as how gay dolls tend to outnumber straight ones in this hobby I don't think you need to worry about anyone getting upset about that

As for the tie - I know you can get what are known as "nailheads" that can be ironed onto things. Usually they are metallic, but you can probably just paint them to the right color if you can't find pearlescent ones. Otherwise you might find buttons in the right look and then just cut the shank off the back and glue them down. Basically the tie is the easy part of the outfit

Thank you, Greyhaunt and Marionette. Walmart used to sell things like that studs for bedazzlers and pretty buttons. I did find a nice tie pattern for dolls that is a sew yourself deal, it looked easy enough. I'm just not all that confident with my sewing skills yet.

As for gay pairing dolls, that's good. Since my Doll's character is a gay vampire. And tha's good to know. I am a gay/lesbian couple supporter since I have gay friends and a relative who is lesbian, so that's a plus, and they think it's awsome that I want a doll.

I also know it's not part of my post but can you recommend a good face up artist? Not really comfy with modding my doll with a scar. I don't trust myself to get it right. He does have one though.

Thanks. I don't want him looking exactly like Kotetsu, even though he is a lovable oji-san clutz, just like me. But I can be a very big airhead like Keith. I just saw that outfit and thought, hey that's what my guy would wear. Still working on his bio.

Faceup artists are kind of a matter of taste. Some people rock at fantasy, others at realism. What I'd recommend is doing some surfing of doll blogs and things (and DoA if you can get it) to see what you like. Never feel bad about asking someone "who did your doll's faceup" because if they are a decent person they will tell you. I don't really have any recommendations as I tend to do my own and I'm waaaay behind on even those LOL.
