Yeah, other people's children are the primary reason why I don't take my dolls out of the house aside from my annual anime convention. And since my dolls are playline, I can't say they're $1500...

Back before covid, I was in the Austin area for a few years, and went to some BJD meetups, but there was drama (that I had no part in) and the group grew apart. Not gonna lie, it felt kinda shitty showing up with my 1/6 plastic customs when everyone else had resin in 1/3 scale, but nobody gave me crap about it at least not to my face.

*sympathy*

I can remember the delight on the face of a mother whose daughter was around ten or so and still carrying a plush friend when I held up my doll and said, "I've got one too."

I tried linking one of my adopted click pets here, but the board wouldn't let me. :/

My daughter is 29 and has ASD and ADHD. She carries a plushy in her bag whenever she goes out (along with fidgets) - and usually a couple when she's going to an appt that may cause stress. She has zero concern what others might think about a grown woman hugging a toy.

And now I'm remembering the day that I was getting a ride home, and I looked over while at the stoplight to see another vendor from the farmers market. I slowly brought my plush pony up, as though he were climbing up to peek out the window, and the other vendor glanced over and perked up. She said, "It's Mack! Hi, Mack!"

Then, later, she said that she thought I was brave, and wished that she were brave too.

...I didn't realize I had so many stories.
