My mom is the only person who knows how much I spent on Rina, and even still she is super supportive and actually thinks she's kinda cute. I don't actually tell anyone else how much she cost unless they ask, and even when they do, I make sure to emphasize that she is a customizable piece of art. :3

My mom is aware of how much bjds in general cost. I actually think that she thinks I've spent more than I have since the doll prices she's aware of are higher than most of mine. I don't tell her when I buy new ones but I don't hide them if she comes for a visit and we don't discuss costs. Two visits ago she helped me carry something back to my room and she saw all the dolls who were home then, sitting on my shelf. She paused for a moment. "Oh! Your doll got a friend!" Pause as her face pales slightly. "Your doll has many friends." "Yup!" "That's...nice" Things would have been totally different if I had started even a year earlier but I'm a fiscally independent, responsible adult and she's been surprisingly cool with that transistion.

My mother's husband was the only one who really had a problem when my brother let it slip that I spent about $200 on Akane. He had to be subtly reminded that it was my money, and I can do with it whatever I please. In my opinion, he doesn't need to know exactly how much Khar cost nor does my mother need know the exact price. They're on a need to know basis.

I'm with you on this.
Actually, I was raised to think it's extremely rude to ask what things cost, so I'm very uncomfortable with it. Sometimes it works to ask, "Why do you want to know?" or, "Why do you think you need to know?" Or, if you want to be rude back, "Why do you think that's your business?"

I brought Blue to work today because colleagues kept asking about them after seeing them on my Facebook page. One of my colleagues said "Ooooh she's beautiful" and held her and played with her a little, then asked me how much she cost and immediately gave her back to me with a scared look on her face when she'd heard my answer... she must have been afraid to break her

The kids were calling her "Barbie" and pointing at her nude boobies because I still haven't made her any proper clothes XD

Welll.... Since my mother disapproves of me collecting dolls at any price it's solid walls of no understanding over here...

See when I was a little kid I was a mega tom-boy, dolls were icky and wolverine was in... As was the lion king, but only the biting action toys, and bionicles and star wars and all the usual boy stuff... I even built this little robot bug dude, but it never worked properly - the programming was so buggy... (excuse the pune or play on words ;p Thank you Mr Pratchett)

..So action figures are fine perversely! (I suspect when she eventually finds out about Iron Man she'll be less upset about him than my cheap as chips witch with a b, barbie... Even though he cost like 20x as much...) sigh you'd think she'd be happy I was behaving like a girl! (Especially after the accusations of dressing like a lesbian (only think the term used for the water protection barriers in the Netherlands... homophobic - much?) when I was a teen)

Yeah, same here, but in my case it's my dad. When I'd buy a $2 doll in my childhood he'd be really angry because he thought they were useless. XD

 They're called 'dijken' (plural), we can't help that the English translation is 'dikes'

Snigger - yea my Dad's the opposite! I think he secretly likes them all tbh! He really liked my Jedi/Elf looking guy when I'd finished him, possibly because of all the guns...
Considering the decades he grew up in (very early post-war Britain) he's incredibly liberal... He let me watch Rocky Horror when I was 9...

Lol! Yeah... no... not my dad. :P
My boyfriend's father on the other hand LOVES my hobby. Whenever I've finished a faceup, he wants to see the new doll. I love him to bits like a second dad <3

Aw! That's really lovely - if I ever manage to have a relationship that lasts into inlaw territory I'd like to think they'd be the nice kind
