Tam I am wrote:You guys just reminded me of the day I got a big jointed doll in the mail (I can't remember which one it was, now), and the lady postal worker brought the box right up to my apartment door, and then hesitated sheepishly when I gleefully thanked her for it. She was so relieved and grateful when I opened the box right in front of her and she got to see the doll. She'd been dying of curiosity to know what kind of doll came in a box like that. I don't think she'd ever seen anything but toy dolls before.

I will almost guarantee she thought it was a VERY different kind of "adult" doll.

When I lived in Metro Atlanta I was part of a local doll group (80% BJD/20% everything else) and we had monthly meetups, usually at someone's home, but many of them out at libraries, but that trickled to a halt before Covid. And I would often take a doll to DragonCon and AnimeWeekend for meetups and continue to bring one to JordanCon each year. I do have a couple of "plastic" dolls that would do fine out more often. Unfortunately, I haven't found a doll group in the CSRA area yet. There is supposed to be an anime/comic con nearby so I might look into that. As for taking one out in the wild, I don't do that very often, although I do have a couple of plastic YOSD sized dolls who could take an outing pretty well. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking any of my resins out unless its for a particular event.

Worry for doll safety is why I have designated travelers, who were purchased or created for the purpose. They're sturdy and low key.

Yeah, Tam, we stopped having the group meetups outside our homes because of a couple of incidents. One was at a library and one was at a restaurant - why parents think their squishy children are the exception to every rule is flabbergasting. No resin children were hurt, but it came close.

Is "don't touch things that don't belong to you" just not a thing that kids are taught in kindergarten anymore? Because kids and parents are so entitled these days, it makes me want to yeet myself into the sun.

Ahhh. I've been glowered at by parents after asking their child to NOT shake a table loaded with hand painted jewelry and table ware. I... yeah. Don't know.

Thankfully, I don't think I've ever had a kid try and TAKE my doll from me.

I hate that "don't let your kid break things that aren't theirs" is now apparently a controversial thing to say . . . Like, please control your crotch goblins, please. I don't need your sex trophies damaging my property, thank you.

That's a big reason why Tamzyn the T-Rex travels for pictures and not one of the dolls. I can find another Jurassic Park Rex (I don't even know which model she is). A special needs child did grab at Tamzyn at the aquarium but they just wanted to see her better.

I am thinking about who I'd want to take to the doll show. Now that I'm using a rollator half the time I could have one of the 70cm boys riding along but it is a tight squeeze in that place. Wouldn't want him to kick someone accidentally.

In the past I found that announcing loudly "It's $1500. You break it, you bought it" worked. Now though...god knows, someone would probably pull a gun on me.

Pull the gun so they could steal it?

Yesterday at work I was wandering around with a handful of dolls. First it was Comfort the braided doll and a new crochet fidget worm that I bought from a sales floor neighbour, but then Comfort went to bed in the backpack and the handful was Geronimo the worm and Minipunzel.

Question: do any of you have dolls that wear different bodies? Like one for at home and one for away. I have a small Rapunzel doll that I carry around the house, and when I go out I switch to the tiny Kinder Surprise one, but in my mind it's the same Rapunzel.
