This is the handsomest Ken doll I've ever seen in my 40 years of living. I adore him so much I'm getting a second one.

I got Daisy today! I couldn't find her anywhere but Amazon, so that's where I got her from. My god, her outfit sucks. She's supposed to be the plus sized character, but you can't even tell because her dress looks like a bag. I'll make her something much cuter.

Ive noticed that Mattel is HORRIBLE for giving the curvy dolls sacks for dresses. It's annoying. It's bad enough that curvy and plus sized people in real life have to deal with ugly clothes because they're deemed unworthy of nice things without the biggest manufacturer of FASHION dolls in the world perpetuating the problem.

There's a lot to unpack with plus sized fashion that there isn't room for here, and so far it looks like all the Besties Girls are kind of meh in the design department but they have done some cute and flattering curvy barbie outfits in the past so it can be done. I think they're just being lazy, it's been a problem with Barbie clothes for some time.

And every time I see another one of these I want to make a meme about Besties copying Miraculous Ladybug's homework and not doing a complete job of hiding the fact. East Asian girl with pig tails, ambiguously brown friend with curls, blond haired blue eyed slightly tan boyfriend, the curvy one has mouse vibes.

It sucks how lazy they've gotten with Barbie's fashion the last decade or so. Barbie was a fashion ICON. Look back at the Fashion Avenue and Fashion Fever lines, the stuff that was the predecessor to the Fashionistas era. The Fashion Fever was the trendiest line of dolls and doll clothes in the world at the time, and a lot of it still is. AND it was high quality! I still collect the Fashion Fever era, even as expensive as it's getting, because it was beautiful AND high quality. Most of the jeans have POCKETS for doll's sake! Front AND back pockets! Now we, we don't even get jeans made of actual denim, just screen printed polyester . . .

Sorry for the rant. I just get so sad seeing the doll lines now and knowing what they COULD be be.

Having now had anything from super vintage to now come thru my dolls' stash I can agree. The mid 2000s-early 2010s was the first time I had bought lots and lots of outfits since the 90s. I've bought here and there, half the time for just one item or accessory, but yeah.

I can get having quick and durable for kids but you'd think they could put out a nicer line for "collectors" even if we could only get it on line.

Here's Daisy, but I've taken her out of the sack dress and restyled her hair. I'll draft patterns tomorrow and make her a new outfit over the weekend, because my god, does she need something cute. She's not even that much larger than the other girls really. If I'm still inspired by Daisy and Ken when they go on a discount, I'll get duplicates of both to customise and make more friends.

Seriously, as much as I love Barbie, the quality is going downhill, even with the collector dolls. I understand the Fashionistas NEED to stay cheap for kids who need to be able to see themselves and the people around them on the doll shelves AND be able to afford, but when ALL the dolls in the Barbie section have the same quality, that's where we start to have problems. And we KNOW you can have quality, detailed clothes at a reasonably affordable price because basically every other doll line and company is doing it! Bratz is making a comeback, Latinistas and Naturalistas are starting to become popular, the Disney ILY 4Ever dolls and fashion packs, even the Rainbow High reboot isn't HORRIBLE, it's just a noticable drop from Gen 1. Mattel, the OG fashion doll manufacturer, is the company that's visibly struggling with quality versus price.
