Hi, nice to be here! I fell in love with BJDs when I was in college, and spent a lot of time looking at photographs of them online and reading about them. Work and college started taking up too much time, though, and I eventually stopped looking at BJDs until recently. Currently, I’m saving up for my first full BJD. I do have a floating resin head, and I'm trying to decide on a body for her. I’d like to learn more about this hobby and interact with people in it. I hope no one minds if I ask a few questions.
1. Would you say that techniques used for photographing dolls are similar to techniques used for photographing humans?
2. What are some considerations to take into account when hybridizing?
3. If I want to make a resin head/obitsu body hybrid, will the weight of the resin head make the doll top heavy?
Thanks in advance! I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Well Hello and welcome to the addiction!
To give you my opinions on your questions"
1. Absolutely! If anything photographing the dolls is more fun because they never complain if you make them stand in one pose for a long time while you get that perfect shot.
2. You have several things to consider - Scale: are the head and body going to fit in terms of size? Is the neck too big for the head? Color Match: Some people worry more about this than others. Will the head match the body? Some adjustments can be made in color with blushing on either the body or the head.
3. I will make an assumption here that you are talking about a 1/3 scale BJD. The answer is NO, the doll will not be top heavy. Resin/Obitsu hybrids are done all the time! I have seen this in both the tiny Barbie size dolls and also with the bigger Obitsu. I have a friend with a Nabi Kiss head on an Obitsu 50cm body and a DZ Feng head on a 55cm Obitsu body. Both dolls are great to pose and play with.
What is your Floating Head?

Thanks, zironmermaid! I'm glad to hear the the photography techniques are similar. It gives me a chance to practice without my subject getting bored, tired, or camera-shy. Also glad to here that the resin/Obitsu hybrids wont be top-heavy.
For hybridizing considerations, what kind of modifications can be made if the head's neck hole is too big for the neck? Is this a problem at all? I see tutorials for slimming down necks that are too big, but nothing about neck holes that are too big.
The floating head I have is an AriPina New Mighty. AriPina isn't a well-known company, and they only have a few dolls for sale right now. I fell in love with the Mighty Head and thought it would make a beautiful girl (a stern-looking one, maybe). Anyway I'm trying to find a body for her. Since the head was originally meant for a 64cm male body, should I try to stick to approximately that height? Since dolls from this company are so uncommon, I'm not sure how to go about determining proportions and resin match.
I can post a link to some pictures of my box opening pictures later. I haven't quite figured out how to post pictures yet.

Welcome, Bluebird!
That's a good question about the necks. I'm actually curious about that as well. I image that you could put a ring of hot glue around the inside of the neck in order to make it fit more snugly, but I don't have any experience with it (yet).

Thanks for the welcome! I'll try to post a box opening as soon as I can.
Daeriel, thanks for the suggestion about using hot glue for the neck holes. I'm still deciding on a body for my floating doll head, but at least I know that there are ways to get around neck fit issues.
