Hi guys! I'm very new to this dollieh world. I'm from NYC and it doesnt appear that there are many others from the area. If you are please let me know so we can have meets!

I'm a freelance illustrator/graphic designer. At the moment I'm trying to get into the garage kit sculpting and dolly world. I've been into garage kits since I was 15. I came across dolls years and years ago and really wanted to make some but the site I came across talked about making slip casts and kilns cause the doll maker made porcelain dolls and I just didnt have the experience. However since rediscovering dolls and realizing you can cast in resin I am once more dreaming of making my own. Though....I have a line up of garage kit sculpts I need to finish first.

Thanks Iwa and May!

Doing a search for any BJD stores in NYC yields sad results...It is such a large city that It's odd there aren't more doll collectors. I know NYC has plenty of antique doll collectors and such but not so much the type I'm interested in.

HI Greyhaunt! Hmmmm upon further research there are one or two groups in the NYC area but I'm not sure how to get on their mailing list for the meets. There is the Dolga store(?) which most ppl say are mainly for Volks dolls which I don't have a lot of interest in. Their site is down and has been down since I've been interested so I can't even really tell what it is exactly. But.....I think if I stick to the forums eventually I should find ppl to meet ^__^.

Welcome! I live in NYC (heaven help me).
I don't know of any bjd stores in NYC, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I'm old (63 this month), so I don't shop the city like I used to. All my dolls were bought online.
Have you always lived here? I'm a transplant from Tennessee, but I've been here about 30 years.

HI!!! Welcome! I'm excited to meet you.

I was born and raised in NYC. As far as I know there are no BJD stores in NYC. I know you can find mini food and stuff like that around but no real dolls unless you collect antiques maybe. I'm not so old but I do most of my shopping online anyway.

Currently I only have one BJD and quite a few Obitsus (though I'm selling most of the heads I have). However, as the hobby goes I am awaiting erm....multiple dolls hahahahha.

Where do you normally go to take photos? I'm just curious because it seems a bit difficult in the city. In the summer I do have the garden in the front as I live in Bensonhurst.

Most of my photos are taken where I live: I mean, in my apartment, although I want to take some outside when the weather gets warmer. I haven't really been photographing the dolliehs for very long, because I was an abominable photographer before I stole--I mean borrowed--my son's digital camera. Now I love it.
I live in Chelsea, and the building where I live has a sort of garden/park around it, but I have been thinking that I would LOVE to haul some dolliehs up to the Cloisters. I wonder if you'd need permission to photograph them there. I'd also like to take pics at the Metropolitan Museum, particularly in the Astor Court, but don't know if I'd be allowed. Since I wouldn't have to use a flash, maybe they'd let me.
What about you?
