Chair protype

I recently found this website full of (human scale) furniture to make. Ana-White.com

I'll be making some patio furniture for the human's house this spring (as soon as my husband's book shelf project is finished).

One of the plans on her site is the "Harriet" chair. It is one that I plan on making this spring, along with the table, but I had all this 3/4 hardwood lying around, and the radial arm saw (for once) does not have the dado blade on, so I hurriedly scaled the plans down, donned my ear and eye protection, fired up the saw, then slapped this poor, lopsided, glue-bedecked chair together. The seat is a piece of cardboard since I ran out of thin pieces of wood.

To further point up my haste, I shot all of this with the chair and dolls perched on my ironing board. I really need a dedicated place in the house for this kind of thing.

Everybody had to try it out

It has potential. It is supposed to be a sort of patio chair, and it looks to me like the proportions are right (the back is supposed to come right below the shoulder blades).

The 3/4 inch stock is a little thick for my tastes, but it was pretty easy to work with. I like this plan since it is made to be put together with one size of wood (seat and back support excepted).

The future versions will have a solid or slatted seat, the screws will be more deeply countersunk and filled in, then the whole thing painted some kind of cheerful color in glossy paint. I'll probably make some cute cushions.

I was thinking of knocking the edges and corners of the pieces down, but I do like the blocky nature of the chair. Gives it some kind of style.

I fell asleep last night mulling over plans for a 1/2" stock version of this.
Obsessed!
