Mermaid make over

I picked up a little $2 mermaid doll in one of the souvenir shops on the island with the intention of fixing her up. The plan is for a reroot, a new face, and painting the tail/lower torso.
Here's she is fresh out of the box:
Her original hair was rooted very strangely, just around the edges and part.
This is the cheap clip in hair extensions the shop had that I'm going to reroot her with:
All bald and with the new holes I punched with a safety pin:
And this is as far as the rooting got last night:
This is the first rooting I've done and so far I'm really enjoying it. It's the sort of repetitive task that I really do enjoy. It's a lot like cross stitching.
