2 InuYasha Customs: A Priestess and a School-Girl[IMG HEAVY]

Postby ShadowKat » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:51 pm

Well, it's about time I actually got some pictures of my dolls and such, so today we did a big photo shoot outside. Unfortunately, today's temps reached 92 degrees while we were outside. So we cut it a little short, but we got lots of nice pics before we called it quits.

These two are Kagome and InuYasha from the anime/manga Inuyasha. The InuYasha figure was released by Toynami several years ago, but we've been working on a complete main cast for several months now.

We made both the Kagome on the left, and Kikyou on the right. The outfits were hand-sewn by me, and the heads were originally Sailor Mars from the Irwin 2000 American line(that's why they have 2 holes in their forheads, from their tiaras), hand-painted by my hubby. My husband also made the bows (there are 2, one of which still needs to have the handle wrapped). They are on Sideshow bodies. I hope it's okay I put them here! We've almost have Sango finished (head and half of the outfit), and then all we really like is Miroku from the main cast!
And now, spam:

And, of course, for fans of the show: SIT BOY!!!

Well, what do you guys think? I need to get some more shots of their clothing. The hakama pants that Kikyo are wearing are older than the kimono, and I really need to get started on some new ones, those had to be taken in a bunch because I measured her wrong the first time XD. I'm working on some more dresses and skirts for Kagome, because she has lots of different outfits in the show. I need to make her a bathing suit for summer! More pictures here.

I love that you cannibalized Sailor Mars heads for Kagome and Kikyo! xDD They work perfectly~ Their outfits are really nice, too! You did a great job hand-sewing. That is my greatest weakness... xD Did Inu Yasha come with his clothes? They're stunning, too. I especially like that shot of him in the sun, shouldering his sword. x3

I hope you find a suitable beginning for Miroku!! He's probably my favorite. x3 What about Sesshoumaru-sama, too? >o>

Thank you! We searched for anime style heads for a long time that had just the perfect look to match the art style of the series, and our Sango that we are working on is made from a Sailor Jupiter head. My husband acrylic wash dyed her hair to darken it. We'll be sure to post pics as soon as she's done.
I've been hand-sewing for a few years now, and I think I'm getting better at it. I used to cross-stitch with my mother all the time when I was little, and I think that helped and has a lot to do with my sewing now.
Inu Yasha came with his outfit, but we changed it slightly. His white under kimono sleeves that can be seen in the open areas where his outer kimono sleeves attach were originally just faked with little white tubes, as were the visible parts of his under collar. We cut those out and found/made him a full under kimono from a Ken sweater we modified (we also found him some white loincloth style undies XD ).
He really didn't want to stay standing up for that picture. Unfortunately he fell over pretty much immediately after I snapped the shot and got a nice little scuff mark on his hair. :( Fortunately we got it most of the way off with a q-tip and some diluted rubbing alcohol! :D

Me too! We can't wait to get started on Miroku! unfortunately we have nary a start on ideas for his body or head that will match just right. :(
We want to make a Sesshoumaru someday too, as well as a little Jaken and Rin to accompany him! I forgot to mention that we're working on a Shippou too! Can't have the main cast without him!

Thank you! It's actually a little trick my husband discovered. He trims out the recessed cup, and tapes over their tiara holes (you can leave the earrings in, as the epoxy won't adhere to them, and you can remove them after the it sets up.) then uses epoxy resin (the 2-part mix kind you can buy with the pre-mixing injector tubes) to completely fill the heads while holding them upside down. You leave the injector tube inserted nearly touching the inside top of the head as it cures. When it has set, you can give the injector tube a few twists and pulls and it will slide right out, leaving a nice deep tunnel nearly the perfect size for most 1:6 body neck joints. From here you just carefully dremmel out a new, much shorter/flatter recessed area as well as the canal left from the tube for a custom popping fit.
Afterwards you have a head that you don't have to worry about deforming with locked in hair that can't be easily pulled out.
One warning though, the chemical reaction of the epoxy produces an incredible amount of heat, so you have to be really careful not to squish/pinch the head as it cures, as once it has it will be rock solid and force the head to hold whatever shape it was in. Also, I would only recommend this for heads that you never want to re-root, as afterwards it becomes nigh to impossible to do so. You still can, it's just extremely tedious and arduous, and not in the conventional ways.
Thanks! We also would someday like to make Sesshoumaru, Jaken, Rin, Yura, Princess Abi, Kagura, Kanna, Naraku, and maybe a Bankotsu. One that we've talked about that we really want to make is Totosai!

Thanks! We really spent a long time (nearly a year and a half) planning and deciding on just the perfect heads for them.

Seriously awesome. Inuyasha is probably one of my favorite anime. I was so pissed when they ended it without actually ENDING it. And then overjoyed when they FINALLY finished it like six years later. lol

The dolls are really cute. You did a good job.

Oh, wow. They look great.
It's so nice that you and your husband work on them together. He did really nice faceups, and your costumes are awesome.
I looked at the other pictures. The colors are so striking, and clear, and I LOVE the shots in the trees.

Thanks Stormlight and EAB! I wasn't too happy with the ending of the first series, though I'm glad they did end it instead of dragging it out with lots of filler arcs like they did with Bleach. I can't wait for the Final Act to start airing in the States.
My husband actually got me into 1/6th scale, though I've always loved Barbies. The pictures were taken on some of my family's land that they're in the process of clearing off, so there's still lots of underbrush and small low to the ground tree limbs for pictures. We plan on getting some more shots of our other dolls there soon, as well as the rest of the gang when we get them finished. I'm probably going to start working on Sango's traveling kimono soon, while my hubby finishes up her battle outfit (all her pads, belt, sword, and Hiraikotsu).
