New Yoshida doll making book

There's a new Yoshida doll making book with a blue cover, check your favorite Japanese book store or these people http://www.hlj.com/product/HBJ60782/Boo The exchange rate is pretty good right now so don't over pay on Ebay.

I can't say yet if you need the first book to use this one but all previous ball joint doll making books I've bought have been self contained so that you can make a complete doll.

Anyone who grew up Italian is likely to think of "mook" as "that bum uncle you all know runs illegal stuff for the mafia and is in jail more often than not". I'm guessing they might have hybridized "book" and "magazine"...? I dunno. I will vouch for HobbyLinkJapan though, they're an incredible site to work with and the exchange rate is pretty fair, and indeed they often give you a break on list price. Although to note: For anyone who does read Japanese, or is even interested, you're likely to want to get both if you don't have the basics down. I own several action figure making guides in Japanese and while I can't read them it's pretty obvious that to get the full benefit you're meant to buy both, even though they're technically skimming over some of the basics again in the "advanced book", you're likely going to miss detailed information about making it from scratch. That being said, great find Dollykim!!! :D

Mine has shipped SAL and it's on it's way. With shipping my exchange came out about $42.

I have had the original Yoshida book, three other Japanese books, and three Korean books without reading a single character of each. Aside from one very thin small page count Korean book the others have enough step by step by step photographs for the average person to figure out what to do to make a doll. Many of the supplies have English names or enough writing to search on line and find out if it is an air dry clay, such as LaDoll or Premiere, or a resin clay. Tools are easily recognizable. I didn't have the Yoshida book translation until recently.

One of the books is listed as a "part two" or "step two" or "advanced" depending on the listing. It still shows how to make a doll from scratch, it just goes in to body joints, simple mold making, and casting with an air dry slip. More complicated things than a one piece doll body but you don't absolutely have to have the first book if you've had some crafting experience.

If anyone sees an Asian language ball joint doll making book and has questions feel free to ask me about it, I might have had a copy pass through my hands.

<----...Err...didn't I basically cover that in my last comment? I have dozens of Japanese (and some Chinese) crafting books, and I just wanted to point out that for people who don't have the experience, grabbing the first book in most situations might be helpful as well. As for tools, basic tools are recognizable but many books are obviously going to have Asian brand-name supplies which can be confusing for some people, especially when it appears without enough context to figure out "Oh, this is something like Aves/Milliput/etc." I know many of the books I own show stuff that I still can't figure out what it is to this day, and I'm more than familiar with all the usual tools used in the various customization books I've picked up. Sometimes there is just a cultural barrier there or it is something unrecognizable.

I just wanted to encourage people to pick up the first book as well if they're not immediately comfortable with diving in to make a BJD (or whatever craft of choice they're buying a book for). I've seen books that go both ways, ones that basically repeat everything in the second book that came from the first and ones that delve right into what they promise, more "advanced" options. Unless you know exactly what is in the book before you get it, it can be a bit of a crapshoot for some people. In cases like that I advocate getting the first book as well. Master crafter? Skip to volume three, four, eight, whatever you feel your skill level is.

BuyJpop has the book listed on their Ebay store http://stores.ebay.com/buyjpop?_trksid=p2047675.l2563, possibly their Etsy store too, if you're more comfortable with a US seller. I've bought many books from them over the years and the prices are acceptable when you factor in the faster shipping.

But they have some pictures of the insides, I see several types of body joints, double knees, and mold making and casting of some sort.

My copy came in today, a better review is coming, and this literally is a "part two" book. You will need to have a book on sculpting a ball joint doll or have a good idea of what you're doing to get the best results.

This book looks to be more about making a mold, for press molding and pouring an air dry slip, and experimenting with joints. Would recommend for the serious doll maker.

Some pictures form inside. Your level of needing this book can compare to your level of interest in making a ball joint. You will need a home made doll to make a mold of. There's changing joints and forms too.

I have the first Yoshida BJD book and it's really inspiring. Now, I have to search for the part two book since I'm planning to make my own doll and cast it.
But why this book IS NOT AVAILABLE in my country book store?? :cry: And just when I just can't make any online purchase too...
