I know that coincidences happen, but seriously. SERIOUSLY?!

The Human Torch of the FF has a new girlfriend. Check her out.

Now TELL me somebody hasn't seen Cherry's FB page...

The characterization is nothing like Ri-ri, nor is the ethnicity. But the hair color and the skintone (and even the eyes, in some panels) is spot on.

I don't know if I should be flattered or insulted.

Lol! Oh dear, not sure whether they took your idea, or a generic pink-haired girl idea... but this kind of thing is infamous in comics isn't it?

When the comic artist has a tight schedule they tend to be fairly lax about their "inspirations" - Remember the now infamous "Crying girl"? At the time that one was released the 1st thing that came up in google when you typed in frightened child was a photo that looked suspiciously similar to a panel in that issue (I'll have a hunt for it)

It's shameful that they get away with ripping stuff off so often, but I fear; like the furore with paperchase a few months ago, giant corporation vs. small wronged party...

Milk it, put the comic on her Facebook. Have her send Marvel a nice letter thanking them for making her a character.

At least it's a decent job, after I started my doll motion tests other people began to do it, and did a good job, then Haute Doll did a craptacular version. Someone from Mattel was at a doll meet I went to where people were fawning over the joints on the Volks Littles, not long after the 100 Poses dolls appear.

Oh, I'm not the least bit interested in suing Marvel. Cherry is a fantasy character, not a character in a book I'm writing. (Trust me, the stories I'm writing to sell aren't going anywhere NEAR the Net until I'm publishing them.) I was never going to make money on the character anyway.

And it's not just that it's a "generic pink-haired girl". Primus: Pink hair isn't common in Marvel if the bearer isn't a mutant/alien/whatever. Secundus: Her skin isn't pale, it isn't dark, it's light tan, which is what Ri-ri's is. Tertius: She's dating JOHNNY. And she's going to be one of the featured characters in the new FF series.

But I'm not changing Ri-ri's name to Darla. No effen way.

Well, Ri-ri's Johnny isn't the shallow, insensitive bastard they make him out to be in the comics. In fact, the original Torch wasn't that much of a shallow, insensitive bastard. I was really hoping that dying and being tortured for two years in the Negative Zone (yes, in that order...numerous times...) would mature him a bit. Apparently not.

I took Kim's suggestion and sent a letter to Marvel. XD I did it from Ri-ri's mail, but I wrote it myself. I don't want them to think I'm a total flake.

First off, I would like to thank you for including my character in the new cast for FF. It makes me really happy to finally have Cherry be canon, even if you couldn't use her real name and background due to copyright issues. Just the fact that Johnny's tanned, pink-haired girlfriend is appearing as a character in the new series makes me happy.

I'm guessing you saw some of my pictures on Facebook and Photobucket and decided to use Cherry's likeness for Darla Deering. I'm not even accusing anyone of stealing; I think it's great! Just for legal safety, I hereby give Marvel permission to keep the character with Cherry's face and coloring in the comics with Johnny until hell freezes over and Mephisto goes ice-skating.

Just in case you think I'm totally delusional:

Cherry has been around for years. Thank you again for using her as inspiration.

One VERY happy fangirl,
Emby Quinn

PS - I don't even expect anyone to admit she was the inspiration. I know it, you know it, let's leave it at that. :)

Not from me, it's not. I'm not making fun or Photoshopping Cherry into the comic. That is a real new character who looks JUST LIKE CHERRY. And is Johnny's girlfriend. No lie.

Asides from very superficial similarities like pink hair and skintone I can't really see the issue here.
