Anyone else make Excel sheets?

Postby Vycem » Sat May 26, 2012 3:50 pm

This is going to sound really nerdy, but does anyone else make excel sheets planning out their hobby budget, including layaway payments, etc? I found myself making a pretty elaborate one for myself, including wishlist dolls to see if and when I'd be able to fit them into my budget...

I did something like that once... when I was a graphics designer, and I had a steady salary. I had it all planned out; exactly how much I could afford to put into a piggy bank, or pay on a layaway out of each check, and how long I would have to save, in order to be able to get a doll, and have it paid off in time. But then I lost the job. So now I'm going to try it again.

Oh yes yes, I've got a much better job. XD It's what's been eating me alive, but it's fun and good money, which is why I say I'm going to try budgeting money for dolliehs again~!

I don't have a spreadsheet, but I do have a document that has all the prices of which dolls I want and the order I want them in. :) I'm a kid, so I don't have a job/salary to budget for dolls... whatever money I can get goes towards either BJDs, LDDs, or LADs. But your way sounds very efficient!
Most of my dolls are scary, but don't worry! They wont bite.

I use it to keep inventory! My dolls , their sizes of clothing , eyes, wigs , who can share what items what items I am looking for etc. I never wanted to accidently buy something I did not need. I store my wigs and shoes in boxes where I write the names of them but its much easier to look at the excel sheet. Not that I have a tons of items or anything.

I don't think anything can be classfied as nerdy or nerd anymore. Things that were 'nerdy' 20 years ago are mainstream ( which saddens me in a way since I was a girl who played atari, worked on my computer like a hot rod, coded video games then worked for a video game company) so I have always loved computers and software. Now every one does so its not nerdy so dont worry hah..

This is brilliant. I love this so much. If I ever get enough stuff to do this with, I will have en ever efficient system inspired by this. :D

I had organized Excel sheets when I was a Magic: the Gathering player. It's easy with card games to forget how much card do you own and what of them... Now luckily I don't play anymore XD Less luckily, I don't have a job and my money for dolls came from gifts and commissions, so I can't schedule anything -_-

I modified a spreadsheet someone was passing around on DoA, the tinies size database. It lists measurements for different tinies and I ran a script to highlight which sizes will fit which of my tinies... that's normal, right?

Yea, I worked on the MSD one myself! :P
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.
