Dollieh breakages.

I'm sure most of us have had one of those horror moments. A doll falls. You try and stop it but 'smack' it hits the floor.
When you pick it up you find the worst has happened and your poor friend has broken something.
For me it was Autumn. She broke off two fingers. I glued them back on and blushed them to look like scars.
What do you do? Glue it back? Replace the part? Call 999?

I think I have been very lucky so far... my dolls fall over all the time (especially my AS Leira, she doesn't stand on her own as well as my other dolls and when I just had her I didn't know that) but they haven't broken anything yet!!

So far my breakages have been pretty minimal and since I collect Barbie mostly fixing the problem is fairly easy fixed. I just swap the body out. I've had a couple of second hand 16" girls come with defective arms and that wasn't so easy. Short of permanently gluing them there was no way to fix that and glue means no mobility of arms so that's not too cool. It took me a bit longer to locate some extras but again I just swapped the heads eventually onto new bodies.

Another time I had Tonner boy fall off a shelf and dent his pretty nose and break a hand and as boy bodies are really at a premium around here that was pretty problematic. I had nothing to swap him onto so I called the doll hospital at Tonner and they were able to get me another Matt hand. Fixing his nose was a harder task but after thinking about it a lot I decided to try to file down the chip on his nose to where it's not too noticeable. I managed it okay but if you look very close you can still tell his nose has been broken a bit.

It's a pity really that it happened because he is a rather scarce Tonner convention doll. He cost me a fair bit to buy and if I ever wanted to resell him would normally bring a nice sum. Now I suppose his resale value is pretty much nothing but I'm not too upset really. I think I like him rather too much to sell him anyway and this gives me the perfect excuse not to even if I am too broke and do need the $$$ sometime, lol.

Most BJD's you can just buy extra hands, can't you? I mean don't they usually sell extra sets for posing and such? There is this plastic epoxy in a tub that you can mold and fix almost anything with though. I forget what they call it but it's wonderful stuff.

I've been really lucky so far and not had any real breaks although Taavi had a huge fall of nearly 7 or 8 feet the other day and bounced off a shelf. Fortunatly the only damage was huge paint scrapes that were easy to fix. I think whether you replace the part or fix it and have cracks would depend on the doll. If Taavi's torso had cracked I would have turned it into scars. For any part of Dani or if it was Taavi's head it would need replaced.

I plan to replace her hands when I can. I'm super low on money right now ^_^;

In the resin world, purchase of replacement parts depends on the company. Some are very easy to work with on that, some aren't. Also you have to deal with the fact that if your doll is older then the resin may have begun to yellow and new parts may not match so well in color any more.

I've been lucky as well *knock on wood* that none of mine had suffered damage. Given as I'm highly skilled at breaking things that is something of a miracle!

Yeah, as klutzy as I am it's a wonder I haven't had a doll break something or other, but (knock on wood) so far they have remained healthy and unharmed!

...... I broke Rosiel's neck post when I was switching heads, and I ended up having to get creative to fix it... That body now has its head held on with elastic and a metal ring...

I also messed up quite a few Obitsu hands... >_> well, maybe like 3 or 4...

I really only seem to break things when I'm working on them... although I have dropped my dolls a few times... One time when I was reaching for my glasses case on the window ledge above my bed, I knocked dolls off the window ledge and they fell on my face... :lol:
