Opinions Wanted from Logical Minds

This is really a silly dilemma, I suppose. But I want some outside input... or something.

I am only going to be able to buy one more new doll for myself until the Spring, unless things work out with this new job. I've had one particular doll planned since... September, I think...? And that was going to be a ResinSoul Dai head on a Gang body, in light tan. This was going to be a shell for an RP character. I put it off to buy a Dollzone Annie that I'd been wanting, so my friend and I could body-swap with her Dollzone Hid, and make our twin assassins. Now that's all taken care of, (I'm waiting on the shipping notification), I started putting aside money for my Dai. I've already acquired a wig, and a pair of eyes, though the eyes are the wrong shade, and I'll need a different pair... But while browsing around, I discovered that a doll that was originally much coveted, and briefly occupied "grail doll" status, has had a major price-gashing. I had dismissed the Angelsdoll Kloze (despite the perfection for another character) because I did not need more than two grail dolls, and as pretty as he is, I wasn't willing to pay the $500 pricetag for him. Now Angelsdoll has cut his price down to $220 (for a 70cm doll o.o) so he is affordable for me.

My dilemma is this: Angelsdoll is supposedly going to slowly be increasing their prices a little at a time over the coming months, once the holidays are over, and I really don't want to risk him going beyond my reach again. He's not an insanely popular sculpt, so it's not likely I'll be seeing him on the DoA marketplace any time soon. On the other hand, the ResinSoul Dai has been planned for a few months, and keeps getting pushed off, and I've begun to feel bad about it. Like it's some kind of personal failure that I haven't accomplished my goal. But if this is going to be the last doll I purchase for a while, then I don't want that wig sitting around collecting dust while I wait for the opportunity to get the RS Dai.

The TL;DR: Do I jump on this potentially short-term deal and get the Angelsdoll, or do I stick to my plan for the ResinSoul? RS will still be affordable in the future, but Angelsdoll may not be. Has anyone been faced with this kind of decision before? Should I really be agonizing over this choice, or is it just me being OCD about doing things in a certain order? Because that's really what it boils down to. I told myself I was getting the ResinSoul Dai as my next doll, but now I'm changing my mind, and beating myself up over it. But for a doll to jump from $500 to $220 is a really...REALLY good deal.

I can say that one of my grail dolls is about that much, and if I saw him suddenly plunge to a little over $200 I would jump at the chance to get him. That would go doubly if I expected the price drop to only be temporary.

Dai isn't going anywhere, and this guy may be out of reach again soon.

I am not sure I am a good person to give input on this kind of thing, but I can relate to what you are feeling. Recently I had to make a decision like this with my Becky. When she was first listed on eBay, I had choose to get something else that would be for one of my dolls that I already had instead of getting a new doll. I thought I made the right choice, but when the auction ended, I was miserable. The doll really spoke to me and I even dreamed about her. I thought I had really screwed up. Thankfully no one had bid on her and she was relisted and I won her. I was lucky this time and got a second chance to get her, but what if I hadn't. I am sure I would get over it over time but I she was haunting me. Like you said before....you will always be able to afford and get the ResinSoul doll later and I am sure the doll will understand having to be put on hold for a bit longer. But...at the same time, do ask yourself how badly you want this Angelsdoll. Does the doll speak to you? Do you have plans for it? If it is only because the price is right...is that enough reason to get it? You don't want to regret.

I am sorry if I am not being much help. But I can relate to how you are feeling. *comforts*

I definitely have plans for him. He is going to be a shell for one of my longest-running, dearly-loved RP characters, one which also holds significant sentimental value, because it was through the RP that I first created him for, that I met one of my very best friends.

Really the whole reason I'm even doing this flip-flopping thing is because I had told myself that boy Dai is going to be my next doll, and I've already put him off once... which... really, seems like a frivolous reason, but it's a weird personality quirk. I set myself an order to do things in, and if I don't follow it, I get distressed. The first time I put him off, I hadn't set in stone what I wanted for that particular doll; was I getting him in light tan or dark? Was I going to just get normal skin and dye it? The original character had eyes that changed color with his mood, but that's impossible for a doll, and impractical for my budget, to have a different pair of eyes for every change, and to have to keep changing them on a whim, so what color would his "default" look get....? But once all those things were settled, that was it, Dai was "the next one"...

But more than a 50% price cut... that's almost too much to resist.

I dunno I've done a few jump on dolls I "thought" I wanted and yet I always keep coming back for more BBB/RS girls, and a lot of the other ones I just never bonded with like I did the BBB/RS girls. But I might be Bobobiased... >.>

Then my personal opinion would be to get the Angelsdoll since the price is right and you don't know how long that price will last and then save up for the ResinSoul doll. But again, you need to do what you are going to be comfortable with. *smiles*

Hehehe Bobobiased... You should tell that one to Kittyblue on DoA, Almy.

Yeah, I think you're right, Moonwillow. Maybe I'll make a special little box just to stash the wig and any money I can put aside. -headdesk-

I'd say get the one with the sudden price drop while the sale lasts.

From someone who gave up a grail doll in favour of a substitute custom (same character, same body manufacturer, different heads). I had no credit card and no alternative source until grail doll show up again on ebay 4 years later, by then I already like my substitute(see my avatar) very much and didn't feel the need to retrieve said grail.

Priorities may change when the right doll for the right character comes along. Get the Grail doll with the price cut. As long as the character you want for said doll is still around to 'inhabit' it. Funny thing about dolls in my case is that the ones I have tend to decide on what the next doll I get would look like ( I now require a male in the 50-55cm range for the 1/3.5 gal).

RS will still be affordable in the future, but Angelsdoll may not be.

I think this statement answers your question. BBB/RS dolls will always be there and always be affordable - if another doll has called out to you and now you can afford it (and who says you can't have more than one "grail" doll - i have several!) at this time then do it so you don't suffer regret later.
