Dollieh Sanctuary

Anyone here owning these doll types willing to express your opinions on them? : }

This will by my first real BJD and i am hoping to make a good decision.

I am looking at purchasing both these dolls, but i am hoping to get some pro's and con's for each before buying. I really love the hujoo berry, but I would also perhaps skip purchasing her and save my money for the DIM instead if it comes down to that. I am saving up to buy a DIM Larina.


So...some of the things i am wanting to ask for both dolls are: were you happy with the purchase? Are you happy with the quality? Do you like to way the body poses? What are your favorite things? what are you least favorite things?

If you are willing to take the time to help me with this decision, i will be very grateful!

I do own a Doll in Mind (DIM) doll, but not in that size range. They are beautiful sculpts and excellent quality so I'm sure you'd enjoy it. Just one thing though - not to be nitpicky, but you don't want to refer to them as "Dollfie" DIM. Dollfie is actually a term trademarked by Volks and it refers to their Dollfie line of dolls. DIM is a totally different company. The generic term for the resin dolls would be just BJD Again, I'm not being nitpicky, just want to help you not confuse others because I know when I first read your post title I was trying to remember a dollfie dream doll named DIM LOL. Not to mention if you ever said that on DoA someone else would be less friendly about correcting

I just copy and pasted the name that was listed for her on ebay, so i should have known better that it might not correct. I can't help not knowing these things, as its a learning process for sure. So again, thank you. <3 I am leaning more and more towards saving for this girl rather then buying both. ( I went ahead and changed the title as to lessen any further confusion )

I love my Hujoo Berry. She's a great starter doll, she's perfect for what I originally bought her for(an inexpensive traveling companion) and she poses well and doesn't have any particular design flaws. That being said, once I'm in a more comfortable financial arrangement, her character will be re-shelled in something resin. Or vinyl. Those VMF50's still have my eye if I find a good head for them. And her body will probably be turned into something more experimental.

Berry is certainly adorable, but if you're looking for something that poses well, I'd suggest going with a resin. My Berry is sort of nitpicky. She can stand on her own and she can sit and bend arms and legs, but overall, she's not as good at posing as my resins. Her wrists and ankles don't want to bend well, either (they're strung with elastic, no S-hooks). They just sort of snap back to place when I try to bend them.

Or, if I might make a suggestion? How about a Hujoo Dana? Of course, she might be too big for what you're looking for (she's 1/4 scale in the 40cm range) but she's also made of ABS like Berry and she's equally adorable and her posing is fantastic (she has "clockwork joints" so just about any position you put them in they pretty much stay there). She's also less expensive than resin. Without a faceup, she's $120 I believe. With a faceup (which is quite pretty for the Hujoo default) she's $160. Just an idea.

Just a thought about Dana (and Cora, it probably applies more to her....); anything that clicks can wear out. I'd be careful about the jointing, since it would be pretty impossible to repair if something did happen, but I don't own either, so you can probably classify this as just needless worry...>.>

I really like the posing abilities and joint system for Hujoo Dana. But the sculpt is not really my style, if you know what i mean. I am coming from the Dal/blythe/byul world, so i tend to like my dolls a bit more "exotic" looking haha, if thats the right way to say it. You know...big eyes, big heads...etc.

I have watched/read a lot of reviews on miss berry, and i am happy that you have confirmed my suspicions on a few things. Though she is really cute, and i already have a few ideas for her customizing...i guess i will just continue to do me research and find out as much as i can about whats available that suits me. - Again, thank you greatly. <3 I did not expect to get many responses. <3

hehee, i think its okay to worry. I think that the joint system for those dolls is interesting for sure, but honestly i think i will stick to a more traditional style ball joint. <3 thank you very much for the response, i really appreciate it.

No, that thought has actually crossed my mind a time or two, as well. There is a good possibility that the teeth in her joints might eventually wear down with excessive use, so I'm pretty careful about how much I pose. I'm sure ABS plastic is pretty resiliant, but there's nothing wrong with being careful. After all, I'd like her to last awhile.
