Picked up a brick at Michaels, hooray for coupons because it's twice the price of similar stuff. They have Premiere too. (and doll sized PSP candy tins) Anywhoo I now need to figure out who or what to make out of the La Doll to see if it's really worth the extra price.

Gimmie ideas, people, I feel too cluttered.

Well to find out just how sturdy it is, I would suggest some sort of arm for one of your littles. Like a Full Metal Alchemist arm, or a robot arm.

Hmmm. Absolutely no idea what FMA is about except I seen it around. Stopped pretty much with Manga and Animae outside of getting the rest of Swan.

I have a few more days to think, the coupons don't kick in until the 25th. Going to get another block of LaDoll and Premiere, if they have it, because most critters take about 2 blocks. Torn between trying a mini sized ball joint doll, with better engineering from what I've learned recently, or a buddy for Roger. Any spare Little parts would probably be best done in Apoxie, I've successfully done hair like that.

Part of me wants to ay it's not that much different in strength, the Prang DAP holds up quite well, but the texture as LaDoll says it's smooth. Anything I attempt I want to plan better then Roger, but he's taught me a lot.

Managed to use a competitor's coupon, Michaels will do that, got another brick of LaDoll and one of Premiere. Going to do one of those things on my blog like I'm doing with Making Roger.

I would like to know aside from how strong it is what exactly does everyone want to know about these clays? I'm in a good position to figure out as Roger is made out of Prang DAS and I've worked with Paperclay which are similar products but different formulas.

what is the difference between paperclay, premire, and ladoll? are they all premixed and airdry? are they permanant and waterproof when dry? I am very curious to know which would be best for an upcomeing project of sculpting hooved feet for a yo sd sized doll

All are air dry and ready to go from the package, keep unused clay in a ziplock bag. Paint, stain, carve, seal when dry. I wouldn't suggest getting pieces wet as LaDoll says it dissolves in water. Previous Paperclay pieces have knocked around in a shoe box and done okay, it's thin things like fingers that would break first. The fresher a sculpture is the easier it is to cut in to with an xacto knife. When I had to break and reset one of Roger's legs some of the air dry clay skin flaked off.

I hope to get started with the Premiere next week. That brick feels lighter and less dense than the LaDoll.

Personally I'd do something like hooves with Apoxie Sculpt. I can see the LaDoll and company working best for whole things like dolls and statues.

Opened the Premiere, it goes on the 'things that are nice to touch' list. A lot less stuck to my hands, spreads nicely. Needs to dry before I can detrmine if it's stronger than anything else.

To update on the strength of Premiere it is the strongest air dry I have used. I cut apart my doll with an Xacto and had to do some sawing on parts I estimate to be about 1/2 cm. It didn't flake and chip like what I've used on Roger has. It is smoother than other clys when dry as well.

So I do recommend it, get out to Michaels and get your hands on some. Haven't opened the actual LaDoll yet, not at that stage. I'm assuming it has an even smoother surface.

For permanent and water proof I still say Apoxie Sculpt. I had to wash my heads to get some alginate off and they came out fine.

Get the Premiere, put the LaDoll back, it only feels slightly less gritty than DAS or Paperclay. But I do like the Premiere.

As the LaDoll is drying it is also cracking, which the Premiere doesn't do.
