Finally got it open - the old very hot water trick (multiple times) finally payed off... The paint seemed a bit less viscous than usual though!

Edit: You know one of these days I'm not going to leave a bit of university coursework til the last minute...

...Yeah right! :?

If I can get some spring clothes sewn this week, I think the girls will be going out next week. Finally.

All the viscosity was stuck in the lid.

Man, I love that spring has...well, sprung, but my goodness my eyes are killing me thanks to my allergies.

On the plus side, American Masters tonight is Carol Burnett, who is one of my heroes.

I tried to make blondies and failed :< Tried to do a vegan egg substitute for baking, they didn't rise at all and the middle is just kind of a mushy oily sugary mess. They taste ok, other than a bit of a weird aftertaste, but they kinda....tingle? Too much baking soda D:

...On the one hand Sasu has developed from Artful Dodger clone into cyberpunk/shadowrun style elf brat...

On the other it means I've gotten hardly anything down for this essay due in on Friday!

Edit: I also think I've found the perfect sealant for obitsu vinyl in the UK that isn't MSC!

Tamiya TS80 though utterly perfect for resin (Seriosly I spray this stuff in paranoidly thick layers, and there's no sign of whiting even on my tan guy!) really doesn't work well on vinyl - it appears fine for a little while, but as soon as you start working on the head it'll start to go tacky... At least it does for me, I just about got away with it on my haruka, but I have to be v.careful about how I shoot her so the shine on her nose doesn't show up... It works as a sealant on vinyl but I just hate the way the texture goes as soon as you start handling the head... I don't think it's dirt since I don't treat the vinyl heads any differently to the resin guys - and the resin guys are all as matte as the day I sprayed them

Anyhow my Gretel has been wiped/resealed with Humbrol acrylic matte varnish - and the initial face-upping period shows this stuff has a bit more "tooth" to it and is currently resisting shine, but we'll see in a week or so whether or not this holds up... It might not I'll update this if it all goes wrong!

Edit2:
Paint part of face-up mostly finished:
Image
(No I didn't forget to dilute the acrylic - it's supposed to look like thick face-paint/gang paint)
The face-up isn't finished yet though; all of the stuff for piercings hasn't arrived yet & I need to find a suitable light brown/dark blonde punky wig... They've got no money for food on the street but they can certainly afford cosmetics!

Vetinari, I think your Gretel is looking really good. I can't wait to see your Gretel finished.

I have a coupon for 50% off one cut of fabric at Joann's. I'm going shopping tomorrow for muslin ... 20 yards of muslin. I have a LOAD of material at home in 3 yard and 6 yard increments, plus 1/2 a BOLT of brocade velvet. I am going to sew for ME this weekend, skirts! I'm sick of wearing jeans and I hate dress slacks. I figure if I can make skirts for the dolls, then I can make them for me, plus a friend of mine wrote a pattern for me (measurements for material needed) for a belly dancing skirt. I'll pair that with a peasant blouse and walk around like a hippy...and probably the same thing with the velvet, too. I *really* want a floor length velvet skirt.

Hehe! Thanks! (I was totally aiming for a Fifth Element/Blade Runner/Shadowrun/cheap 70s scif-fi film vibe)
I'm in half a mind about the elf ears - I reckon multiple piercings on the elf ears could look suitably punky

If you can sew... you can make gored skirts. They are very easy to make, same concept for 11 cm all the way to people size. Measure the waist, figure out how full you want the skirt at the bottom (whether that bottom is thigh length or floor), divide by the number of panels you want, add some extra for seam allowance, figure out the length and instant pattern. You just cut trapezoid panels and sew them together. I've made mini-skirts, renn garb skirts, petticoats (to go over a hoop skirt) and cosplay gowns this way. Also used this to make any number of doll skirts. ^__^

Here's a website that makes it more complicated, but has good pictures: http://www.tudorlinks.com/treasury/free ... skirt.html

Happy sewing! We must get the same coupons... I'm working on my cosplay for DollAKon this weekend. ^__^
