they'll just come back, and in some places its against the law to transport raccoons. you might have to permanatly dispose of them.

It is true that in some places it is against the law to transport raccoons. However I can tell you that if you transport them far enough away they will not come back. At least 10 miles and across at least one interstate and you're fine.

Don't try to poison them; they'll only go die somewhere you can't dig them out of and provide you with an unforgettable, unbearable smell for months.

You MIGHT have some luck with repellant, but you have to put a lot of it down.

I wholeheartedly second this. First off I like the interstate idea! There are companies that come out and trap your unwanted pests.

It's the groundhogs that cause all the trouble for us. Well, and coyotes eat the neighbor's chickens sometimes. The groundhogs burrow under the foundation of the barn and our land takes on too much water to have burrows under the foundation like that. We tried trapping first but the groundhog we trapped was so freaked out in the little cage it thrashed itself to death. Literally, it shredded itself against the wires of the cage. It was so sad and horrible to see. After that we prefer a clean kill, it's more humane. If you opt for the shooting route, I suggest a .357 or larger. Not to be gross, but the first groundhog we shot with a smaller rifle crawled off under the barn, leaving us with the unforgettable smell for months issue. The .357 was instant and we were able to bury the critter. The coyotes dug it up of course. Ew.

The thrashing-in-cage issue might not be the same for coons. I've known a couple of guys who have trapped raccoons without their thrashing in the cages (they train their coon dogs with 'em) so they may not injure themselves like the groundhog did. Sorry I rambled. I wish you luck with your coon problem!

I've PMd 2 people about stuff who just pointedly ignored me... And sold the stuff to other people... I've gotten all of the so called requirements to be on there, but everyone seems scared to even respond to my messages as though I'm going to scam them! Surely the buyer is the one more at risk in a forum situation?

...The GO I'm in happened because the hoster noticed my Bowie rants all over the place rather than any marketplace interactions...

That's odd, I've had responses to all inquiries/offers I've made about marketplace items on DoA.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

I usually have the opposite problem - a buyer will ask me for a total price to their zip code and then I don't hear from them again after I respond....

I must admit to not responding to someone after I inquired about their wigs, but then they took a week to get back to me and their shipping cost was excessively high (I hate when people try to recoup the low cost of their items by inflating the shipping). Besides, by that time I had found another wig....

If you can't trap and kick out see if there are some local hunters or dogs that need training. A good critter hound can work wonders. Our Pebbles cat makes a noticeable gopher dent where ever we go and Madge is catching up. At the old house there were enough that the terriers would dig after them too.

Raccoons will chew off their own limbs to get out of some kinds of traps(like wire snares). Really, the best thing you can do about a raccoon problem is just kill them. It's sad, but there is really no other way to keep them from troubling you or someone else.

He offered to do that, too. He has kill traps but since we live in town, I'm afraid he might end up catching some pets that run loose. =(

*edit*

I don't mind killing them, even though shooting them IS messy. Honestly, I just wish we had a yard that was fenced. If that was the case, we'd have a large dog trained to go after animals like that. Art had a Collie/Shepard mix years ago (before we met) and he and his mom NEVER had a wild animal problem. Sadly, where we rent in town (literally the main drag) has no fencing and I don't want to pay for that since we rent. And since we live in town, I can't shoot them. Trust me, Jeremy was more than willing to shoot them because he wants the pelts (and the meat - *ugh*).

I'll have to double check about transporting them but I think it's okay in Illinois. I know that Jeremy has friends who transport them to other places.

After checking, IDNR has to do this AFTER I've tried everything else, like repellent, ect...It may not even be worth trying to get rid of them.
