No? In my recollection, most of the off-topic dolls have been Korean. There has been discussion about the differential attitudes towards Chinese dolls and inherent Sinophobia, but that's not really answered by talking about on-topic/off-topic.
So what if they're American and European? Just because they're not asians, they can't have an opinion about what asians are like?
Not about what Asians are like. About what Asian people create that is somehow magically "Asian enough" by Western standards. And it has nothing to do with liking or disliking a doll. Again... if you are seriously still not getting what I am trying to say, I don't know how to break it down any further, so just put it down to a failure in my communication.
And especially it's used as a cover for Sinophobia. Because my heavens, is Sinophobia tolerated and even encouraged in this hobby.
I don't believe DoA is out encouraging hatred towards Chinese people Just because they dislike certain Chinese doll sculpts...
That wasn't aimed at DoA in any case, but in the fandom as a whole. The fandom tends to perpetuate certain stereotypes about Chinese people and their works being cheap/degraded/inferior, which is pretty much textbook Sinophobia. I'm not the first person to recognise this as a problem in the hobby, nor will I be the last.
I find it really triggering that "aesthetics" is used in this hobby to mean either exactly what the user wants it to, or nothing and all and b) the extent in which the word is used a a cover for racist generalisations.
.....
It's really the racial privilege being shown in this hobby which annoys me. But I also love language, and I hate seeing words used to obscure rather than enlighten.
And that's just the first page. [/quote]
None of those are actually examples of me saying that not liking a doll I like is racist. Seriously... what dolls I like, or what dolls other people like, is completely beside the point of my problems with the whole concept of defining racial aesthetics, which was always the point, not my personal preferences.
I really am done here. Because this is feeling circular and pointless, and I don't mind debating actual points I've made, but I find debating points I haven't made kind of exhausting. Maybe I'm just fatigued and ill and not communicating properly, but this is really getting nowhere.
