Megabitsu lesson no. 1: argh Aiko is an even worse dirt magnet than Drax!! Just picked her up and she's covered in these mysterious grey smudges... Luckily none of it was permanent but argh... this is going to get old soon, she looked a bit like a "street urchin" in theatrical productions... from now on no one else is allowed to touch her in this household...

We're going to be launching an official Doll Wings site over the weekend and I'm starting to freak out that nothing is good enough and holy carp it's going to fail hardcore- just fall flat on it's face into the ground- and ahhhh nothing is good enough! But then I have to remember the market I'm making them for. They're cheap, quality wings, meant for lots of dolls. They've been tested and the designs hold up, and just because they don't look like the fancy $100+ doll wings I've seen, doesn't mean my cheaper range ones wont measure up.

Okay, just how hard IS it to hook up a Bluray player??? I bought one at Walmart thanks to the gift card I got for Christmas, but it's HDMI compatible, and my TV is older so it's DVI. I bought a DVI to HDMI cable from Amazon, which gave it nice picture but no sound. So I returned the cable (well, Amazon refunded me the money but told me just to keep the cable), and bought a DVI/HDMI converter BOX and a male/male DVI cable, so I could plug in sound cables. Well. Now I don't get any picture! Theoretically, it should work. There's something wrong or incompatible with either the box or the cable I bought, but since I don't know which it is, I'll have to return BOTH of them. Again. It's frustrating! At this point, I'm thinking either I'll just say screw it and return the player, or I'll just say screw it and buy a whole new television that's HDMI compatible to begin with.

On a less-frustrating note, I just checked tracking for my Fairyland order and discovered my F60 bodies are in New York. Methinks they'll be showing up tomorrow. I hope. *keeping fingers crossed*

Okay, just how hard IS it to hook up a Bluray player???

Hooking it up is pretty easy, getting it to play can be frustrating. I did a little digging into this 6 months ago when I bought a Blu-Ray drive for my computer. I was going to run the output from my computer's HDMI output to my older HDTV's DVI inputs. Turns out HDMI and DVI are really not compatible by just using an "adapter" cable. I have no idea why they sell those cables since the two standards are relatively incompatible. You actually need to use a converter box to match the signals (like you did). Now the next layer of frustration. So before I get a converter I want to see the disk on my computer. I pop my Blu-Ray disk into the drive. It spins up, the distributor's credits appear then suddenly it stops playing and I get a warning/error message saying my monitor is not HDCP compliant and the disk can't be played through my monitor.
Welcome to the world of High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, one of Blu-Ray's layers of digital rights management, which restricts the usage of the disks. In a nutshell, all this DRM stuff is supposed to keep the disk's content from being copied by "talking" to the devices the Blu-Ray player is connected to, to make sure they are "secure". If the player has analog (RCA) outputs you can probably still use it, but what's the point? You're not going to get the hi-def picture quality unless you use the digital output.

The long and the short of it is you will probably have to get a new TV if you want to step up to Blu-Ray.

I know my husband told me I'm not supposed to be spending a lot of money...but I ran across a MAJOR score today and could NOT pass up the $15 price tag. I walked out of my favorite antique shop with an old RCA Victrola box loaded down with 78s! Whhooo hoooo! So far, I love EVERYTHING I've played! I've never heard any of it before and I LOVE the old war music (think 1940s). This is just up my alley! Now if I could only convince Art to actually GET me that working Victrola that's in the back of the shop. lol!

Was this a whole cabinet one or a tabletop version? Top wise it looks identical to the one at the museum I worked at, but that was a full cabinet one. Worked beautifully still, we would play it when school kids came in for field trips.

*headdesk* Yeeeaaahhh, I was afraid it might be something like that. Thing is, though, I haven't tried an actual Blu-ray disk in it yet (haven't actually BOUGHT any thus far). I just tried a standard DVD, and the player can access Netflix and Pandora so I was trying to get those to work. With just the cable, I can access the player's menu and stuff, but no sound. With the box, no sound OR picture.

Well, I've been considering buying a new larger television. I've seen some at Walmart for pretty good prices. Actually, cheaper than when I bought MY television seven or eight years ago. As if I needed another reason to cave in and get one. But it'll have to wait another month or so, since I'm paying off a Soom boy and have two more layaway payments to make on it. I'm trying VERY hard to not use my credit card. My goal this year is to pay it off, not add more to it. ^^;

Oh also she seems to have a vendetta against any OC but her's in RP's and expects every damn thing to be some happy family thing even though she's a fucking bitch!
