Ehrm, Forgive me ignorance...but are you Mercedes Lackey....I read so many of her books as a kid and I was surprised to see her dolls on JS.

I believe she is.

And I just sold my Unoa books for what I paid for them! Woot! More Dollzone money which means I have more pocket money for other stuff the dolls think they need.

Question for you VV - cause I've been wondering this - do you get paid a higher percentage on e-books? Or do they just charge the same price as they do for a print book even though they probably have a lot less cost going into making it, and give you the same small amount per book?

I have been waiting for this book since before I started collecting dolls. My first doll has red hair and green eyes because of these books. I have an MSD based after a character in these books.

I am so excited.

That's such good news! I didn't know the second book was out. I just requested it from the library.

Yep, I are Mercedes Lackey. This project was literally a work of blood, sweat, tears and love. I have beaten this mule all the way from fanfiction into pro prose, through rain, hail, sleet, black of night, darkness of despair and writers dropping out of the project, and every crisis short of dropping out of the project you can imagine.

On the whole I get a higher percentage from e-books. I get a substantially higher percentage on an e-book you get directly from Baen itself because that cuts the middleman right out (Baen was doing e-books before there were e-readers, actually, one of the pioneers of the process). Printing and distribution are a HUUUUUGE part of the cost of producing a book (as Cirque can tell you).

And Gratz on the new dorrie! (MUST get Sera back together....!! She's one of the main characters in this book!)
All you damn kids get offa my lawn!

Hubby and I are a couple of those dinosaurs who likes the feel of paper between our fingers, so we have no e-readers at all. But we do have 3 shelves of Mercedes Lackey books! :D

I ended up going with an iPad, first because it runs Pages like my Mac, it also runs the scriptwriting program Celtx. I'm shifting towards E-books where possible because between my own shelves and the ones in the garage that grandma left us there are just too many to deal with. It's getting me to read classic books I might not otherwise, never know when I'd get to them but there's been time, and allowing me to write on the go.

For people with lifting and holding things issues an E-reader weighs less. There was an interesting program from Japan saying the two formats can exist together, people will still like the feel of real books and will collect them while some titles that didn't/couldn't sell get new lives as E-books. Especially text books and obscure subjects.

Yeah, but it's just not the same getting your iPad signed by an author . . . . ;)
