I'm so glad you finally got them, Greyhaunt! That's just insane, I hope they find the guy and deal with him. harshly. Imagine what else might be on that truck that won't get delivered until after Christmas.

All the mail carriers here know to leave stuff in our property unless it absolutely has to be signed for, and they also know that it can be signed for by the two houses to the left of us (my uncle and my grandmother). We've been running a home business here for about five or six years now and most all of the delivery people know us, and know that if they leave anything at the mailbox that doesn't actually fit inside, it WILL get stolen within an hour. The only problems so far have been when they were leaving non-company stuff on the steps for the office trailer instead of the house, and the one substitute mail lady that refuses to actually drive into the yard and pick up the HUGE pile of packages we send out every day (even though we know she has a notice in her truck saying they must be picked up)

I just really hope for his sake the guy didn't get murdered or carjacked or something. It's that time of the year and it has happened that bad people do try to mug FedExp and UPS drivers. More likely he/she just got totally overwhelmed and exhausted, but couldn't face quitting, and dumped the truck but you never know. I get mad when they do stupid things too, but I wouldn't want to be a delivery driver right before Christmas honestly. What's really weird though is that it wasn't TWO people. Most USPS, UPS and FedExp drivers work in pairs for the month of December for safety reasons and also because there are tons of heavy boxes to lug. One guy or gal in the truck during the holidays is unusual.

I don't think anything bad happened to the driver, fortunately. From the few things the various people I talked to said, I think he was a temporary driver (they referred to a "contractor" several times) and just decided he didn't like the job so he left the truck somewhere and went on his holiday vacation or something. If he'd been carjacked or something then I'm sure the contents of the truck would have been stolen - something I very grateful did NOT happen.

From comments the guy who did finally deliver made to me, it sounds like the original driver was pretty lazy and just couldn't be bothered to try and deliver any packages that took an effort. The final driver actually came down to Phoenix from one of the small northern towns just to do these deliveries - I made sure he knew how much I appreciated his help
