also, while I'm pretty sure it won't be that bad, I will be liveblogging being trapped in a nursing home over night on http://animalswithfancyhats.tumblr.com/

Really looking forward to having another doll owner to talk to around here!

In other news...we got a puppy recently! A blue pitbull named Harley, and he certainly is a handful sometimes >w< But we all love him lots.

congrats on the puppy! i'm a pit mix owner myself. they're such cute dogs and they get a bad name for so reason. so glad you decided to get one! ^^ hope he grows up to be a good boy!

it's cool your sis is getting into the hobby. :3c i'm pretty young myself, and my first doll was a Pullip, but a Resinsoul is a GREAT option! they're so great looking! do you and her gush about dolls together? you helping her save up for one? it must be so great to have someone so close be interested ^u^

Hah! I had no idea either - and I actually saw that film at the cinema (one of only 2 I bothered with cinema-wise actually  it was for David Tennant...) between the hair and the make-up even knowing that it's Jarvis Cocker, he's no more recognisable!

Like everyone else I think it might be VAT (though it's normally listed at full VAT price on the site) or a shipping/import thing. :? The only things I've had from amazon lately are a book (which is VAT free by definition woo!) and some guitar strings so I haven't really had to think about shipping etc. Though amazon UK did recently up the minimum price for free shipping so maybe that? :?

There's a couple things it might be. VAT (Value Added Tax) that they slap on to EVERYTHING every time it gets sold in the manufacturing process (raw materials into parts, VAT, parts into object, VAT, wholesaler to retailer, VAT, retailer to you, VAT). Brits are so used to that they don't even think about it. Technically there is a way for a buyer in the US to get it back, but you need to fill out a special customs form. It could be a currency conversion fee, if Amazon does their own currency conversion instead of having the bank/debit/credit card company do it. Or it could be an international handling fee.

You were right, it was a VAT thing. We have it here too (I'm in Europe) so I was expecting that, but since you mentioned it I went and double checked and apparently the % varies depending on what country you want your stuff shipped to... They could have been a bit more clear about it I think, but at least now I know what it was.

Discovered the Exhibit Supply Company arcade cards, now knowing where all those altered art ATC people find their scantily clad flappers from, it's worth a look for vintage non sports and fortune telling fun. The future husband and future wife are hilarious.

I could see doing this with dolls or cartoon characters.

On Friday the forecast was for over a foot of snow between Sunday and Monday morning. Saturday the forecast for Monday was between 8" to a foot. Sunday it was 6-8".
Our grand total as of this morning? a whopping 1 1/2". All of it came yesterday early morning and the roads are completely dry this morning.
Sometimes I'm very, very happy when the weather man is wrong.
