So much for global fucking warming.

Ah, you got our weather from yesterday morning in North Texas-except our wind chill factor was 3. Right now it is a balmy 26 degrees. I am so glad I bought long johns in November. I am living in my fingerless mitts and scarf. Can't use my touch screens while wearing gloves.

Right now in Atlanta it's 8 degrees - without the wind chill factor.

The neighborhood birds love us though. Our deck rarely has less then 12 to 15 birds at a time feeding.

When I got up this morning (5:30) it was -15 air temp and -35 wind chill... it's almost 10 now and it's warmed up to only -8 with -25 wind chill. The tv stations would have really saved a lot of effort and time this morning if they had just said 'ALL SCHOOLS CLOSED' instead of listing them. It would literally take at least 15 min to scroll through all the closings!

I hadn't even gotten home yet yesterday and I had a call to start the phone tree, school would be closed! I haven't had a snow/freeze day in over 5 years!!!!!

Well, it's a little after noon here, and my little corner of PA has made it up to a wonderfully warm temperature of -1! Yay!
Thankfully my car started on the first try, though it was very unhappy about it. I still have water and heat. I know a lot of people don't have that at the moment. A couple co-workers were mentioning that their water pipes had burst by this morning. The large trucks that come into work are almost all down today. Apparently diesel turns to gel under a certain temperature.

I can't complain too loudly, though. This past Sunday it was in the 50's and this coming Sunday it will be nearing 70.

It's just after 4 and we're at 2!!! feels like -16 with the wind though. My heater has been running all day, and it can't even get the house up to temp, I'm just happy it's holding a couple degrees below my setting. Lots of tea drinking today, and very glad we are OUT of the snow belt coming off of Lake Erie, I don't have to shovel anything.

Weather is not climate.

The record low in Mobile was 3 in 1971, in January. The same year in December it was also 8.

You should look up the Texas Blizzards of 1956 and 1957s. Ten inches of snow in 1956, and in 1957 it was worse, with drifts of NINE and TEN FEET tall. 20% of the cattle in Texas died that year from cold or starvation.

I want a rubber band loom to make them but would face the same dilemma of what to do with them afterwards. Same thing with a Kumihimo loom.

Since we have writers and, especially, prospective writers in the group, I thought I'd share something my husband posted on his FB. Through working with JordonCon and being acquainted or friends with a handful of published authors it's become plain that the Stephen King and James Patterson level of incomes are not at all the norm. If you desire to write because you have to then by all means - write. Just know that it's not a nonstop gravy train to Fortune City.
