Richila, I always love seeing your talented work. :D

I'm currently working on Mika's shoebox house. My dad's gonna make some wooden furniture. I'm very excited!

Attempting to clone. When that's all over I want to do some thread crochet again. I'd like to try and make some stuff for my 11cm Obitsu, she's about the smallest one I have.

It has been a long time since i worked on a computer. My daughter in law does all that now. Sometimes people really beg to be stabbed. I find long stints of crocheting helps me overcome the urge. :D

Thank you Jobee!

Just saw a crochet thing called a tentacle scarf, the one that looks like chain links, and I might try that next.

Apologies about this long overdue update - I know at least one person was interested in seeing the result!

I've gotten about 90% of the paint off of that Spike sculpt, and yep hopefully the photo comparisons below show what I believe to be true; the factory paint really does obscure a wonderful underlying likeness.

However I really wouldn't recommend wiping him altogether - it's taken me quite a while to get him to this point, and even now I'm struggling to get the paint out of all of the little nooks and crannies. Even with the magically strong powers of tea tree oil as a paint solvent, the factory paint is solid. It takes an awful lot of effort to wipe it. (Which is a bit of a blessing since I was able to work around his eyes quite easily, so I'll be able to use them as a guide when I do my planned repaint!)

Here's the comparison shot:
Image

Hopefully the above image shows how appalling the factory paint is, and the roughly beige nearly but not quite skintone of the underlying plastic. It should also show the issue I'm having with these old Sideshow sculpts... Side by side with Hot Toys, and Hot Toys-esque modern sculpts... They're lacking. Charming. But lacking. In a very real sense they're oversized, and their necks are far too short. So the next shot should show up the scale issues:
Image
They fit in wonderfully with my 1/6 10th Doctor, but the Hot Toys and Hot Toys-esque guys really do show up the cartoony nature of the sculpts here... Well that and ideally Spike would be of a height with Tony and The Doc here, but instead he's about as tall as Qui Gon, simply because the oversized noggin means he has to go on a tall body to be in the right proportions.

Soo I'm no where near finished with my adventure in wiping and repainting but that's what I've got so far!

Around packing the library and disassembling the bookcases and stripping wallpaper, I finally got Rien's short wig and Kya's wig finished. At least wig rooting is rather portable, and doesn't take up much space.

Kya's is a hard cap made of urethane glue and organza (I think silk, but maybe poly? It's been in stash forever and I'm in love). The hair is acetate, and I'm seriously confused by the acetate negativity around. This is brilliant hair in terms of texture and acting like hair. I rooted lightly because I've been frustrated with too thick wigs. This is the titian red; in life, it's a coppery amber, but it photographs anywhere from dark strawberry blonde to medium auburn. Her wig used exactly one 38" hank, divided in thirds, and hits her mid-back after cleaning up the ragged ends.

Rien's short is my first attempt at a tibetan lamb skin wig. It took less time to make than a hardcap, but more fiddling with the pattern to get it to fit, and much more time to style. I'm still on the fence on skin wigs, I think. I think I like it better for short styles, but for shoulder length or longer, I think I prefer rooted caps.
