It's 1:50 AM, can't sleep, and am watching Hoarders.

Holy crap, some of this stuff is scary. O__o My place is cluttered, but nowhere NEAR to that extent (and I have an excuse, having moved from a large apartment with six huge closets to a smaller finished basement with NONE, and already selling most of my furniture to fit). I can hardly tolerate living where I live anymore, how can these poor people STAND it? The clutter, the filth ... I can't imagine how bad it must smell, what with all the rotten food and bugs and ... ugh. I'm torn between being revolted and pitying the poor souls stuck like that. And it makes me even more determined to get back into a nice, spacious apartment where I can spread out and have actual room and daylight and stuff. Given the only furniture I have left is my bed and dressers and book cases, it'll practically be empty. Two bedrooms. That's what I've decided I definitely want. One for me, one for my computer and dolls and other collectible stuff, and the cats won't be allowed in either of them, shedding all over the place. Even though I'd be sitting on the floor awhile until I could save up for a nice couch, just to have all that ROOM would be absolute heaven.

Edit: Although, the episode I'm watching right now, I REALLY want to bitchslap that one woman upside the head. She doesn't seem to care that she's about to lose her entire house and her husband is having health problems. Stubborn old bat.

That's why I don't watch that show anymore. *shudders* Although, I did make my son watch it with me a couple of times. He no longer calls me a hoarder.

It's just makes me wonder where the line is between "collecting" and "hoarding", and how easy is it to cross without even realizing? Makes a person think. This episode I'm watching now, though, is really disturbing. The woman has dozen cats running loose. Her house is COVERED in cat shit. It's just ... mind-boggling. I can't even IMAGINE what it must smell like. And OMG, there are DEAD CATS in the house! So you've got rotting animals on TOP of all the filth ... they're all wearing bio-hazard suits and no wonder!

Oh, they had BETTER take the rest of those cats from that woman. Animal abuse pisses me off like nothing else.

My grandmother had a lot of stuff and it was organized. She had lived through the depression and had a store or two in her travels. Although her house was cluttered it was tidy, no dust, vacuumed, no trash piling up, kitchen clean and useful. In the end we had to throw away things like craft supplies, which had rotted instead of getting used, and pointless to us paperwork but none of it was trash, just thinks other people might not keep. It's definitely genetic and I have quite a few things I don't always use but I want them organized so I can use them and I like to display my collections. I'm also able to get rid of things, they don't weigh me down except when moving. I couldn't live being dirty.

What I can't understand are the people who can't clean up or get rid of garbage. Outside of the very small part who do have severe mental illnesses how lazy do you have to be? And the no plumbing people are beyond comprehension.

lol... I tend to accumulate things that I later realize I don't need or want, and when I finally try to clean my room I always end up with a big box of stuff to be taken to Goodwill.

-__- but I also don't get how people can just let piles of rotten trash sit around... I mean, no one in my house likes changing the trashbags in the trash cans, but it eventually gets done when the can is full or stinky.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

edit: sorry for the wall of text, but this brought back some memories ...

I can deal with mess, but not with filth. I might not be as obsessive as my mom when it comes to cleaning, but there's a limit to the amount of dirt I can tolerate. I guess I grew up not knowing what "really bad mess" means ... until I visited a person I used to know a few years ago, who was at the time living in the house she had inherited from her deceased father. In the hallway I found myself standing ankle-deep in unopened mail ... the living room table had all but disappeared under piles of everything and dirty dishes, the sofa was covered in stains and smelly blankets. The bedroom was inaccessible. The pots in the kitchen were about to develop intelligent life. This person was suffering from severe depression and said later on that while the house had been in a state like that she'd had to stay alive because she couldn't have left all the mess behind for someone else to clean it up ... but I still don't want to even begin to imagine what must be going on in a person's mind to allow things to even get that bad. (A while later she found a girlfriend who in turn put her foot down, and we cleaned up the place with a task force of half a dozen friends. Honestly, the amount of trash we carried out of that place would have filled a truck.) I mean, sure, chaos tends to explode, but it takes a while for a house to turn into one big dumpster :?

Ugh, I really want to see the movie Drop dead gorgeous once more, and yay, it's on TV tomorrow - at 6.10 in the morning!! WTF?! Who ever thought that would be a good idea?

Our house is just really cluttered. It's larger than an apartment but for a house, it's small. Two teenage boys and myself and my husband. We all read so not having shelves (no room) makes finding a home for books an issue. We decided that is what the tops of the dressers, fireplace mantle, end tables, coffee table and a hutch is for! Lol! Then I have the dolls and cameras sitting on top of the books. I don't dust but once a month. Dishes, laundry and trash are done daily. Sweeping and mopping? Once a week for mopping. Sweeping almost every other day unless the cats go crazy. I just wish we had more room. We would have wall to wall shelves.
