The way I see it a good looking doll is a good looking doll. I don't see them as fitting into race or culture. I'm a woman of few words.

When a new doll is introduced into the hobby, about 98% of the time I can tell if it will be accepted into the "Asian" aesthetic group or not. So, on the appearance level, there is something that groups all of these dolls together somehow.

For groups that prefer these dolls I can understand the need to give them a vague aesthetic label of some sort. Being that the ABJD trend did start in Asia, perhaps labeling the aesthetic as Asian was just the easiest thing at the beginning. Now that there are non-Asian origin dolls that have "the look", and Asian origin dolls don't have "the look", well...what do you do?

At this point what could they really call them, as there definitely is a certain "acceptable" look? What would you use to define it as?

The only aesthetics my dolls fit in to are mine. I just passed up on a doll because as much as I liked her look something about it wasn't completely gelling with me. The only resin I have that had to have some sort of "ethnic" look, as far as I can guess, is Xavier because I wanted him to look like his muse who is of Irish descent.

When it comes to dolls and representations of human forms people will gravitate towards features and looks they prefer. Long legs, big eyes, pouty lips, young child dolls, big breasts, ripped male bodies. It will come out in the wash. A certain club or website wants to have certain rules let the babies have their bottles. If it really really upsets you then work constructively to making your own every bjd welcome forum, just make sure it's 21st century dolls or make room for the compos and Bebes.

OK, I obviously haven't been hanging out in the same places as you, because I have never heard any of this...

But I did look up the definition of the word aesthetic and I'm not sure the people who are saying this stuff are even using the word correctly

I thought it was the realistic body detailing and all that made an asian bjd an asian one, compared to the more chubby childlike european dolls you tend to see.

There are many examples, but one recent one that popped up is Lumedoll Elf Meissa. While the company has many dolls that are considered acceptable, she is not.
If I'm not mistaken Lumedoll is actually an US company...That's the one part that has always confused me the most about the hobby. You would think that acceptable Asian ball joint dolls would be from, you know...Asia.
