Well if I can do a quick armchair psychologist thing...

Children who are bullied turn into bullies.

Children who are abused grow up to be abusers.

NONE of us are anywhere near as beautiful as our dolls. If we were, we would be out there getting dressed by other people for a living, not living out our fantasies with hunks of vinyl and resin (I'm looking at you, Seraphym doll).

So, I suspect that every one of the elitists--and they are--in real life has menial, demeaning jobs, in real life are not the most attractive, and in real life have been bullied and at least psychologically abused. They have nothing in real life to make them feel special except that they own really expensive dolls and buy really expensive things for them. And when you consider the relative value of "really expensive"--you couldn't buy a good used car for the cost of most of their "expensive" dolls, so for relatively low cost they can have the Ferrari of resin, even if they are living in a crappy apartment or in mom's basement. To discover that their magic kingdom is being invaded by the peasants just has them in a meltdown, and they are deliberately acting like the Heathers and choosing the most bullying, nasty things to say about the peasants, protected by the anonymity of the internet, and hoping it will drive them away.

But that's just my opinion, and I have a right to say it regardless of whose feelings could be hurt, right?
All you damn kids get offa my lawn!

Some of us who were bullied and abused try our best not to treat most people how we were treated. Gallagher also says ignorance and stupidity only understand ignorance and stupidity. :/ I think a lot of them do it for the reaction and borderline trolling because they have no "life" otherwise. Having grown up without anything in my childhood I never had anything "expensive" to my name I wouldn't know how to value my life in that way.

The only doll I have that I feel could come close to making people envious would be Taffy because he's a prize head and I actually won him, but heaven forbid he's a Dollzone. It's not how much you spent on your doll, it's how much you love them. I'd be very hard pressed if I had to choose between Xavier and my beloved Darci I've had forever.

Well, debates like this always bugged me when I was a resinhead. But yeah, personally I think it's the batshit crazy people that make the hobby look bad, not the cheapskates who have other stuff to buy but would like a piece of the action.

Like a certain person who keeps trying to degrade my posts there by saying that my writing is of someone who has a mental condition apparently similiar to their relative. I like to think my posts ramble but I don't sound like a foreigner with a mental condition do I?

The thread itself is a doozy. Dolls aren't luxury items apparently.

Personally, they're freaking dolls. Just put some kinda material on them lest you be thought a pervert.

A couple of observations:

DoA has a nasty reputation because the staff let it get that way. Seriously, how long do you think anyone would last here or at JSF if they displayed the rude, insulting behavior that's been reported here?

I think Misty's analysis pretty much nailed it; the people who brag the loudest about the cost of something they own are compensating for a short-coming in some other area of their lives. Of course, it never works since they are still the same (wretched, miserable) person in the same (wretched, miserable) situation except that now they have some expensive dolls.

i just couldn't believe some of the things where said "why spend money to make it look poor" there was only one moderater who liked sock clothes, she commented about wanting an imp that its wardrobe was going to be all left socks. Which made me giggle. :3

The only thing about socks that gets me is people selling beginners made sock outfits for over 5 dollars.

Not to play devil's advocate here - because I'm not - but those statements are not absolute. I grew up as a child bullied from approximately the 4th grade until I graduated high school. I also grew up psychologically abused by my family (being told I was worthless and having every decision I ever made denegrated).

Somehow I came out of that, not by any means unscarred, but I don't abuse, and I don't bully. Not everyone turns cruel, but then we are the stronger ones, not the weak ones. I agree completely with VV in her assessment though :)

Well damn. Now I have to go see what you've done, GH. :p

Who gives a crap about what other people dress their dolls in? Really. I think this is why I mostly look around on DoA only when I'm shopping for stuff. The things people want to debate about make me get all irritable. I want to enjoy my dolls. Not argue about them or what they're wearing. It's a hobby. It's supposed to be fun!

Whoa, this is seriously that big an issue there? I guess that's why I haven't been back in over a year. I don't get what the problem is. Seriously, even the local BJD person who sells SD-sized "Not Made in China" t-shirts at doll shows agrees with me that it's hard to find a better ribbed knit in doll scale. (also, she is friendly and doesn't hate my Obitsus, so please don't judge her)

I wonder if they feel any better about a dress made from a shirt sleeve. Maybe it's acceptable to make a dress from a Hot Topic armwarmer? Is it just a sock issue?

Anyway, why should you care what someone else's doll wears? Maybe their dress doesn't look as nice as a fir, but odds are they made it, they're proud of it and they want their doll to wear it. People like BJDs for the customization aspect, why shouldn't they make clothes, even if they want to (or can only afford to) recycle fabric? It's not like faceups, where you need special, expensive materials (like sealant) or the doll could be damaged; clothes are clothes. They can model $60 Lolita fashion tomorrow, let the owner have some fun today.

On that note... half my BJD clothes are made from socks. I have a stack of regular fabric and am capable of sewing other things, I just love knits, and the way that the socks hide your stitches, so I can get a nice-looking garment with relaxing handsewing instead of the machine.

Where did all these 1/6s come from?!
