Gunther's Sleep
With me no longer my little boy,
He has taken a part of my joy.
No longer ground beneath his feet,
All in darkness in his eternal sleep.
Pictures and memories are all thats left,
Even some of when he slept.
All sprawled on his back or curled up,
Right now those memories can't cheer me up.
There's a black void in my chest,
Because of my Gunther's eternal rest.
I want to hold him in my arms once more,
But my heart would still be sore.
My baby is now gone from me,
No longer his loving eyes I'll see.
No longer will I hear his purr,
No longer will I feel his fur.
For him its all gone black,
And to me he'll never come back.
How I miss my Gunther dear,
He has no more pain nor fear.
I told him it was time to sleep,
Sleep long, sleep deep.

A few people here already know that a couple months ago my baby....went to sleep. And I stopped doing everything. I was avoiding everything and everyone for just over a month. I am still mourning him, but have at least started doing what makes me happy again. Working on my dolls, writing and drawing again. I had him for 15 years. He was born in this house and died in it.
Seeing the thread of everyone's pets made me miss Gunther all the more. So I felt it was time to share pictures of Gunther. The last picture is Gunther, Starjumper(we call her baby) and Nim(I don't have a picture of Covington...yet). The poem I wrote the day he died. That whole day I was numb. Now everyone knows. Today though I am happy, so I must be doing better.
I hope to be more active on the forum from this point out.

Gunther is so adorable. I'm sorry for your lost. Having lost a cat myself I know how it feels. I still think about him every single day lol. Usually it's when I waiting for the train to go to work since I remember waiting for the train to rush to the hospital to see him after the surgery and complications that finally was all too much for him.

Hugs. He'll always be with you.

I'm so sorry to learn you lost your friend, and I share your pain very deeply as I too have lost a kitty and my dear current cat is old and not so healthy.

As trite as it sounds, the pain does lessen, though it never goes totally away, but you'll find that soon you'll be able to remember and smile at all of the silly things he did, and by remembering keep him alive with you :)

So sorry for your loss. Pets become family members to most people, and it can be hard when they have to go. You never forget them, and over time you'll think more of the good and think less of the end.

He was a handsome fellow!

I had to put one of my cats to sleep in March right after my birthday. I still think about Pibb, and I still have some anger for losing him so soon. However, the memories of how happy he was with me and the bond we shared are beginning to edge out the negativity. You'll find some peace with Gunther's memory eventually. *hugs*

Thanks everyone. I know I miss my cuddle bug and Covington lost his papa cat and is now coming to me more often for attention and comfort so I guess in a way I have a new cat. And he's almost 10! All 3 remaining cats almost 10, but healthy. So I still have cats to pet, but none can give me my fuzz therapy. (they don't like a face rubbed in their tummies like Gunther did)

Each cat must have their thing that makes them special. Treasure that as his memory and welcome the love the others bring, they'll find fuzz therapies of their own, just give them time.

Gunther was quite a handsome boy. I'm sorry to hear of his passing, but am glad you have good memories of him.

Of course you'll always miss him, but after a while accepting his loss will become less painful.
Our Shadow died in '02, and my husband still misses him- none of the other cats have been 'his' in the way Shadow was.

 I'm so sorry again, Natasha-san! I'm really happy to hear you're starting to do better. He wouldn't want you so sad, right? ^^

I understand your loss and agree with everyone that you'll never stop missing him, but you'll be able to remember him without tears and with smiles instead, as time goes by.

God bless you!!
