They did make a modern multicultural doll set, having trouble remembering the name but it was a high school setting with various playsets, skin tones, and I think I remember at least one girl having a different body shape.

I think the problem really is that people really want Mattel to label everything in such specifics, like WE NEED A MODERN GIRL CHARACTER LABELED AS ARGENTINIAN/A PROFESSIONAL/A SPORTY GIRL/MIXED RACE/LESBIAN but for real, one mid-toned doll with dark brown hair could be every single one of those things, its all in who is looking at it.

meh, i see very little wrong with barbie in traditional gear of diffrent countries. that's how they've done their dolls of the world for eons now. after all, when you are using a fashion doll, what else are you going to use to describe a country than it's clothing style. hell, if you made non-traditional clothing, you might as well stick each doll in slightly diffrent jeans-and-tshirts since that seems to be the norm for everyday clothing in many places.
