I've been busy at my new job and not able to go online much, so I just am now catching up around here.

Kitty, I'm so sorry about your sweet one. Trust me, I know how hard it is to lose a pet you love so much. One of the hardest things about having an emotional attachment to a pet is the knowledge that you will most likely outlive them. It takes courage to know that, accept it, and still invest that love.

At least you know that your kitty understood that he was loved very much.

I just found this after finally spending some time here and I just :( I am so sorry for your loss. We've all been there but it never gets easier. My cat of 10 years died, unfortunately, in a bad way. She's got a special shrine in my bedroom on the shelf. You loved your kitty baby and he knew it so he spent his final day at your side not letting you worry.

I can't talk about pet deaths without tearing up, oh boy. I hope you heal with every passing day and you have our love and support here.

Starting to feel more and more for you, we haven't seen our oldest cat since the day after the puppies were born. If she doesn't come back then our time together is done.

~big hugs~

I got his ashes back and when I get my shelf/dresser put back together that he loved to sleep on, that's where he'll be. His food bowl, name tag, pawprint and a photo will all sit there.

It's a very hard thing to go through, and it doesn't feel like you'll ever be better. But let it all out, and take a deep breath. Sleeping helps too..

@everyone: Thank you all for your condolences. It makes me feel so much better.

@DollyKim: Be sure to check and call your shelters nearby. One of the ones around here only keeps them for three days before euthanizing; check on craigslist too.

We did but she wouldn't be easily caught, it's not hard to miss an orange and white polycat. When other pets came in she would disappear for awhile and she's not friendly with other people. My hope is she's somewhere in the wilds of the back yard in the day and comes in at night to eat. If she's no longer here with us she was ten and had a good life.

We've decided if it's just Magic cat left she'll be the only one for awhile, she was fostered with our dogs and thinks she's one, and leave it to fate if another cat joins us.

*And guess who just trotted in, jumped up on the counter where we kept her water fountain, and asked where it was? She's clean and dry and fed so she probably has been sneaking in at night when not hunting. Such a kitty thing to do.

Loosing a pet is hard. I have already had a fair share of that my pets dying or in cats case, disappearing. At least your friend died next to you and not somewhere else. To this day I don't know that exactly happened to my cats. They just went out and never returned...

Evelien wrote:I'm posting here again because I know that losing a kitty friend can hurt - badly. I lost my Noor very suddenly 3 years ago and this topic is bringing back a lot of memories. I expressed my sadness back then by writing her a short song and singing it to a compilation of photos and videos of her. It's still on YouTube. I just watched it for the first time again just now and it still makes me cry. I wonder if I'll ever have a cat that I feel the same connection with. You must feel the same way :(

When my deeply loved cat (mother of my current cat) disappeared and my dog died I also made a song for them. Actually, they were gone for a whole year when I wrote that song but I just couldn't forget that pain. :( I really loved them. But I really love my current cat as well. He's awfully sweet and very calm 6 years old cat and I adore him. I loved his mother but he's also very special to me and right now I don't think any cat will be able to replace him. As for my poor dog, she was like a sister to me...
